W100 The Grand Mercedes 600 (W100)

The Mercedes-Benz 600 (factory code "W100") is a single-generation line of full-size ultra-luxury limousines and Pullman limousines, made by Daimler-Benz from 1963 through 1981. Nicknamed Der Grosser (Grand/Large Mercedes), succeeded the Type 300d "Adenauer" as the company's flagship model. It was positioned well above the subsequent 300-series in price, amenities, and status. It was mainly used by heads of states and Royalty. When launched in 1963, the Mercedes 600 was the most expensive car in the world. Its few competitors included British and American marques such as Rolls-Royce, Cadillac and Lincoln's top model lines. Though very costly, it's hydraulic mechanisms were ground breaking and has not been seen in any other car to this day. The Mercedes 600 still remains to be a very expensive car to own and maintain even today.
The old Phantoms are genuinely magnificent ......they are probably one of the last unapologetic examples of Aristocratic taste. The world is no longer run by the kinds of people that vehicle was created for ........

It's a shame the world is run by those folks, todays leaders are too beholden to money and jerked around by their financial backers.

We'll yes, it's kind of a mixed thing: Democracy has given us all much more equality and opportunity .......but we have also seen how extreme wealth without a sense of social responsibility can sometimes lead to shameless greed and corruption.

Although I do not like class systems ........it is true that the old aristocracy certainly took their position seriously and adhered to a strict code of respectability and dignity (as was expected of them from birth) ; today's (parvenu) élite often do not appear to hold themselves to the same high standards.

Mercedes club Serbia had a little tour.

Vinyl is making a comeback. John Lennon had a player in his white 600 Pullman. :)

I also like velour seats, they seemed to have faded on new cars and replaced with a much more harder and courser feeling cloth, which I don't always find comfortable to sit on. The velour is warmer and softer and definitely more comfortable than other cloths. It also doesn't attract dust so easily.

I'd like velours seats to come back. @Wolfgang, do you know if it can be ordered for a contemporary S-Klasse, Designo perhaps?

MB trucks offer velours seats at present, but in the S it's only the velours floor mats. Suspect this may change if there's more demand for them. :)

The harder cloth is called "flat weave" I believe. :)

Looks really good, makes you wonder why Mercedes never built one.

MB built two W100 600 coupes. One to honor chief engineer Fritz Nallinger. MB 600 guru Karl Middlehauve has also built some. :)

Paul Bracq stands alongside Bruno Sacco as the finest designer of Mercedes Benz models for all time. That guy has designed masterpieces not just for Mercedes but for BMW also.

Mercedes should go all out make a Modern version of the 600 in a normal and Coupe version under the Maybach it will be a brilliant success if made correctly with that huge grill and a great interior which MB is capable of.

Suspect there are a number of 600s available, e.g. this one. :)
