Pits could be agressive to other dogs, but also can sleep with cats, other dog and other animals.
I had other dog, and everyone told me "he will kill him etc".
But he protect him, love him, they were best friends.
When other dog passed away, pit was sad, looking for him around house, yard...
So for me, answer is yes. Even my neighbor male dog come ty my yard and they play.
Worst you can expect is that it would not want to play with other dog.
In that case, you don't let him to make contact with other male dog, just female dogs.
That's all. They are totally safe for people. Small breeds are more aggressive.

A like all dogs, but pits are big heart, you just adore them first time you meet them. Many people come to my house, afraid of pit because of bad rap, but once meet them, the fall in love.
They adore to cuddle, they are gentle hearts.
They are just opposite what media tells you.
They are all same, unless you teach them bad thing.
But you can teach that all breads.
Dog is mirror of it's owner.

But I want to them to play with my kids but at the same time chase the coyotes away but leave the resident deer in peace.
I will research and observe before pulling the trigger next year.

Good luck, I think you won't wrong with any breed, it just what you like the most.
Every dog is good dog from born, people made them bad, teach them, torture them, and that's the reason why some dog do something wrong or bad. But in normal family, no one dog is bad.
My is 9 years old, and never ever show aggression to any human, not even think about that.
My small sister when come to my house, he lay down on the floor, laying on back, and let her cuddle him.
That's highest level of trust from dogs.
It's my first pit, i also was concerned about pits ( because of media ) before I met one ( friends dog ).
Boy how I was wrong.
Now pits are my love alongside cars and women. 
Chance is all they need.

They are safe for kids for sure. I don't have coyotes here, but they will protect family.
You can teach them to chase coyotes i think...

They will not attack deer for sure.
But for chasing coyotes, I don't know that much, here I don't have coyotes around.
Ask some dog trainer.

Yes, and that's the problem. When a Pit Bull loses it it can kill. You have far less chance of defending yourself compared to many other dogs.
I'm capable of making my own mind up, and unless you think there's some kind of mass cover-up on the part of the media to protect all dogs other than Pit Bulls, then they seem to be behind more deaths than any other. In fact, Pit Bulls are banned in the UK, along with several other breeds such as the Japanese Tosa.

Those figures you've posted (again) are missing the point. I'm fully aware that it's the owners who are mainly to blame for the way a dog behaves. The problem with Pit Bulls and similar dogs is that WHEN they have been brought up incorrectly and they flip, they are capable of a lot more damage than most other breeds.
And regarding those figures. They're hardly conclusive. There's so little difference between the breeds that it renders the results not very indicative of anything.

I was prejudiced against pitbulls, till I met our neighbors - he passed away since - but was the sweetest, gentlest dog. My opinion - stereotyping a breed of dogs based on news articles is no different than stereotyping a group of people from news either.
Only thing I feel strongly about when it comes to dogs, is adopt from a shelter, don't buy from a breeder. We have a german shepherd mix since he was a puppy, changed me and my world and is the center of my universe -

No I don't, but neither are you in a position to comment based solely on your own experiences. That's why we have independent organisations to make judgements.

I own a gun too, and a very powerful one, 45 caliber, but you must be "clean" to get one. They would not gave me permission if I was criminal.
But I don't agree with logic that someone should be baned because it can be used for some bad purpose.
For instance, R8 is a lot dangerous car than Dacia, you can a lot easier kill someone with R8.
Does that mean it should be baned and Dacia no ?!
Ban the deed not the breed.
If some man is serial killer, that doesn't mean all people are bad and should be punished.
Beside every bad situtaion with dogs has a own history and reasons.
They are tortured, chained, or teached to attack humans.
Owner is always responsible.

I had a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, she was the whimpiest dog I've ever known. She loved children and smaller animals (like cats and rabbits).

They are too kind. Opposite how they look like.
I don't see here different story from any owner or someone who had contact with it.
Stafford and Pit are same breed, difference is just what they used for.
Staffords are used for pulling weight and that's reason why they are bigger than pits.
Maybe Betty don't know fact that Pits are born in UK.
If you look head of pit and staff, or mix them, you can't say which breed is, staff or pit.
That's because they share same DNA.

Guys, enough. I have updated the thread title to "dog pic thread". So stick to that - pics. Like other political issues, we won't/cannot solve the appropriateness of a dog breed here, so no point in discussing it here. I am sure there are other places in the Internet for that.
