The Chinese copycats thread

Chinese cars are no longer the laughing stock of the industry. For a while, they were, being either rudimentary or poorly executed facsimiles of western models. That’s not the case anymore.

Compared to what?
Still mostly crap compared to Japanese, Korean or Western cars. But yea compared to what they did 15 years ago it's day and night.

Why should anybody stop their automotive progress?

If they invade Taiwan everything will be stopped.
Western brands should plan for the day that happens. All trade will be halted just like how they're choking Russia today. Economic warfare.

Nothing will change. China officially annouced that Taiwan is Chinese and this should have already triggered the world to stop them. Also they are the only reason (after Russia of course) the war in Ukraine to continue. Without their support Putin would never dare to start it. But the world is tollerating this absurd behavior because the Chinese market is too important and ruining it would crash the stock markets.

China can officially announce whatever they want, lol. That doesn't mean jack shit. If they invade Taiwan, EVRYTHING will change, and we will see the full wrath of the U.S and its allies (AKA the West which is the biggest force this world will ever see).

What you are saying sounds absolutely delusional.

It's just a matter of time before they're taking over.............if they aren't stopped.

Why stop them?

The UN recognize Taiwan as a province of China, so do the US, UK, France in fact most of the world except these 14 countries Belize, Guatemala, Haiti, Holy See, Honduras, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Paraguay, St Lucia, St Kitts and Nevis, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Swaziland and Tuvalu.

Which makes the entire premise rather daft, if most of the world including the other 4 members of the Security Council recognise China's sovereignty over Taiwan why are we getting all upset if they want o take it back under control?

What support is China offering Russia in the war in Ukraine? They aren't providing any weapons, they aren't providing any economic aid, all they are doing is not supporting the US, like a large part of the world, who just aren't interesting in the conflict.

You're young are you going to put your life on the line to defend Taiwan? This is not a NATO issue, article 5 doesn't come in to play. I don't see anyone in Europe with the exception of the UK providing boots on the ground. The US public is split, it was only last year when the first poll was in favour of defending Taiwan, even than it was only 51%.

If the world is serious about defending Taiwan then why aren't they accepted as a sovereign nation and a UN member? If the US wants to defend them why are the fence sitting when it comes to recognising Taiwan?

I personally don't care either way, China can take them or they can remain independant, i'm not bothered, the only issue I have is the present situation is daft, they are either given full recognition by all relevant bodies of they aren't, if they aren't then why complain if China takes them back?

They are buying from them the oil and gas and every kind of raw materials more than ever before. By this they give Putin the possibility the counter act the western sactions. And Putin would not make anything without the approval of China.

And so are India, South Korea, KSA and an entire slew of other countries. If China wasn’t buying raw materials from Russia a lot of products we take for granted today would be out of production.

It’s very difficult to removed Chinese made components from the supply chain, the company I worked for looked, if you find a replacement the price is higher, which makes us uncompetitive against our competition who still source parts from China.

I thought the US acknowledged the one-China concept back in late 1970s? BTW, do you REALLY care that much about Taiwan anyway? It's a tiny island and are run by a supposedly Chinese government that left mainland 70 years ago. Taiwan calls itself the Republic of China.

It already started

China's EV exports surge to record on European demand
European countries such as Belgium and England were the biggest importers, taking up nearly 70 percent of the shipments.

Car manufacturers in China such as MG parent SAIC Motor (the MG4 full-electric compact is shown) exported $3.2 billion worth of EVs in November, up 165 percent from a year ago.
Exports of electric vehicles from China more than doubled in November, creating a monthly record, mostly fueled by European automakers that farmed out the production to the country.

A certainly attractive Chinese, which is not a copycat of anything from what I see, although it emulates to enter the ID3 segment

Most Chinese major manufactures are using European designers these days. This Zeekr is designed by a Volvo designer with both brands owned by Geely.

Mix between the new Mercedes concepts recently presented and a Tycan perhaps? They look cool in any case.

New pure EV brands, under Geely parent company, more than anything they do it like this to raise capital and investments separately without touching the mother company, the strategy is good and complex but everyone is doing it, except the legacy premium german companies.... why will it be?
