GT [Official] The all-new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé

The Mercedes-AMG GT is a series of 2-door sports cars produced by Mercedes-AMG. While not directly replacing the SLS AMG (competing in a different segment), it is the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG.

I am digging the aero styling on the front, looks cool. There might be a couple more variants in the pipeline including a lighter Black Series version.
Based on what we've seen of the AMG boss' comments, they might have a completely separate dedicated lightened hardcore sports coupe planned for homologation purposes.
Which leaves the GT in a bit of a strange place - its basically splits the difference between the old S-class coupe and the AMG GT. I.e a proper Grand Tourer.

I guess maybe the AMG GTS and GTR might be on their own platform? Or perhaps they'll name it something different. The "AMG RS" maybe lol?

Which comments are those?

There was an interview posted somewhere here. Might be earlier in this thread or in the What's Next thread. The AMG boss was talking about plans for homologation or a future Evo update of the GT3 car.

I think you’re confused. All we got is someone spreading news they heard from AMG engineers. Nothing official.

MB UK held a launch event for the pro at brooklands.

Apparently a GTR version is coming.

MB have really f#cked up the naming system.

So is there gonna be a GTR and then a GTR pro?

IMO the gt63s should have had the specs of the GT63s pro from the start

And the normal gt63 and gt63s shouldnt exist.

A guy went to the f1 at Silverstone and claims the next GT3 racecar will be based on the CLE.

How that is meant to be an improvement I dont know.

I have my doubts about that, cause it's even heavier than the GT.
If that is the case, then they'd have too much to do to get it below 1500kg.
At which point they're better off doing an Evo III of the original GT.

Something isn't adding up, anyway

When the volume of add-on flamboyancy is turned down, I just love the direction that AMG has taken with the new GT coupe. IMHO, with this car, AMG is now a genuinely bonafide Porsche 911 competitor. And much indicates that AMGs future will be even brighter with a number of very promising new offerings in the pipeline. Both ICE/Hybrid as well as purely electric.

The article author themselves indicate there's not going to be a separate sports car, just something based on the AMG GT Coupe. AbsoluteUnit was intimating that "they might have a completely separate dedicated lightened hardcore sports coupe planned for homologation purposes."

Honestly basing it off the CLE sounds worse, so I hope they avoid that.

I was zeroing in on this line:

We look into the future to find another car as a base, which has the genes to make a GT4 car possible. Looking from different perspectives on it, it’s not so easy.

So I mean they could use the CLE for the GT4, but I don't think that makes sense because its a bigger car, with a longer wheelbase and will likely be heavier with a V8 (the CLE53 is already 2000kg).
I was just hypothesising that they could be working on another two-door for their GT4 car, or they might keep using the old GT architecture but with updates, or they might modify MSA extensively and make another model from it.

Who knows at this stage. But I certainly hope that the new AMG GT GT4 is not based on the CLE.

I know there is lot wishful fan talk here, but do realize how financially idiotic it would be to make a new low volume model just to homologate it for racing in a low key series like GT 4. Almost everyone takes existing models and homologate them. And BOP ensures they all end up roughly same level.

SLS replacement isnt a Crazy thought. This is the company that made the amg one
