The W222 is simply a beautiful masterpiece. I thought the W221 was a challenge for Mercedes to top, but I would honestly hate to deal with the stress and pressure that comes with being the project lead that has to find ways to top the W222. It's overwhelmingly perfect, IMO, and that's why Benz keeps getting all of my (and many other's) money.

Who would've thought, that of the 3 German flagships, it will be the Mercedes who has the least chrome on the outside, and the least bling?

Well done, Wagener et al., well done.
Choose your specification wisely. Because you can over bling your S-Klasse as you can with the 7er and A8. Although the BMW is far more subtle in its application.

Is this a joke?

Maybe it has something to do with lines and/or editions/engines?

There is nothing subtle about the 7-series chrome application.

If you compare the S-Klasse MOPF to the 7er "Pure Excellence" you can see with the amount of chrome on the front Facia that Wagoner and co. Have given the S-Klasse dental braces.

The standard S Class is perfectly fine with a single chrome strip but the Maybach version is actually unbearable tbh..way too much chrome.

Scott. Seriously- the amount of chrome is about the same. And you don't have to deal with the hockey puck. The 7-series also has a piece of chrome running across the front. Below is the S560 with sport pack, S350 with the standard package (S560 can be equipped similarly), and the 750i Pure Excellence as you stated.

Are we seriously arguing about a couple of pieces of chrome? Some people will like a few chrome accents, some people won't... what argument are people trying to win here?

Well, I was just trying to say it's a matter of what the customer wants, not because the MB designers are geniuses for using little chrome. Both can come with no chrome or ample chrome.

The nice thing of the S-class that I like the most of all 3 is it's timeless yet modern look. It's already 4 years old but still looks modern inside and out and hasn't dated at all compared to the newer competition and tech wise it is on par with them also, especially the new powertrains. An S350d with standard trim looks so elegant and then there is the wonderfully sporty S63 and noble S65. It looks great in all model specs and appeals to different people taste. It is my top choice as it's combined with a stunning luxurious interior that in style and comfort is the best here especially with the LWB and optional comfort back seats and the Maybach models have probably the finest back seat of any car.

The 7-series is my next choice because this model is the best rival to the S-class in many years and so elegantly sporty especially as a M760iL it looks fantastic and the interior has a modern cutting edge luxury look with brilliant ergonomics.

The new A8 looks ok but nothing special. It's exterior has too many conflicting styling elements such as huge front and rear overhangs and massive angled grill and boring looking rear lights. The interior although built impeccably looks cold ans clinical and doesn't appeal to the emotions but only to the tech junky

This is a quite splendid photograph of the G12 (it is a G12, isn't it ?). Those particular OEM 21" rims are stunning.
