X5 [Spyshots] Next generation BMW X5 (3rd gen) 2015?

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.
It's hard to see the difference from 2D photo, I admit. So, seeing the car IRL definitely reveals more. From what I s IRL, I didn't notice any difference. But it could be the cars I saw were the same type of cars with one type of tail gate. It could be.

The currently available documents don't say anything about different tail gates per se. But ... I don't exclude anything. Yet I personally doubt the presence of 3rd row seats would bring more upright tail gate window and the absence of 3rd row seats the steeper window ... but ... I really have no detailed PRO or CONTRA info regarding two different tail gate designs. All I can provide here in this particular case is my personal input / opinion.

Thanks....Appreciate the input. I've seen what I've seen. I've viewed BMW Camo'ed prototypes for over 10 years from every conceivable angle possible. There are several rear hatch designs floating around. Will be interesting to see what makes it to production. Thanks. PalBay
I agree with you, they do appear to be different profiles.

I'm just putting this one out there but is it possible that there's a difference between the 5 and 7 seater versions?

The cost of doing that would be astronomical.

I've had more time to think about this and I'm questioning why the cost would be astronomical, unless I'm mistaken the only thing changing would be the angle of the rear window so only rear hatch would change and not the rest of the bodywork.

Maybe as Palbay says they are testing different designs before settling on a final one.

Depending on what line? There is additional aerodynamic aid similar to the Active Tourer Concept on the rear screen which aids the rear spoiler.
in pictures it gives off a more raked profile but in reality there is not much of a difference.

Testing different designs before settling on a final one? Now? On the verge of being launched? When they're getting ready to take or have already taken the publicity photos? What planet are you on?

They're not different at all and I'm baffled why some people think they are.

I'm only giving a reasonable explanation as to why I don't think to would have cost an arm and a leg to offer a rear hatch design that was different between the 5 and the 7 seater...no biggie.

I don't think I'm on a different planet, let me see......no it's definitely air I'm breathing, all I'm saying is that I haven't seen the new X5 unlike Palbay and I am simply giving him the benefit of the doubt when he says they appear to be different.

If I were in the market for a new SUV, which I'm not, because my 2012 Range Rover Sport has apparently lost 40% of its value - it will be a very tough choice between the upcoming X5 M50d and the facelifted Porsche Cayenne S Diesel.

But I just can't help but think my next car is going to be the Cayenne S Diesel. What a beaut!

The big Cayenne is something else and in my opinion the cream of the current crop of SUVs, whether this will continue to be true after the launch of the new X5, RR Sport and the not to distant Q7 remains to be seen, though I reckon you could do a lot worse than picking it.

Look at the size of the damn thing, no way it will outperform the cayenne. Unless it is made of CF which is impossible.

Some quick sketch in paint. Not so precise, but I can see that there is very little diference in size with old one. Blue is F15, and red is E 70. Also, there is difference in view point of camera, but not too much.

^There's something not quite right about the above comparison, the F15 has increased in size to this time offer a proper 7 seater configuration which usually means an increase in wheelbase (think Q7 vs Cayenne) yet here the shadow is suggesting the F15 has a smaller wheelbase. Which one is in shadow?o_O
