X5 [Spyshots] Next generation BMW X5 (3rd gen) 2015?

The BMW X5 is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by BMW. The X5 made its debut in 1999 as the E53 model. It was BMW's first SUV. BMW marketed the X5 officially as a "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV), rather than an SUV, to indicate its on-road handling capability despite its large dimensions.
It's the waiting that's killing me. In all honesty it's the next X6 that haunts me most....could only be a winner!

I'm sure with the current BMW designs the next X6 should look fantastic. It all depends on what you need..coupe, SUV, SAV. Better to wait than regret.

I was reading on new 3rd gen Acura MDX(X5 competition in US) today and noticed that it has Variable Cylinder management. Also remember Scott mentioning about BMW working on cylinder deactivation or something for fuel economy. When is BMW releasing that technology and with which model?

It is already here in the 7er although BMW call it cylinder dimming which does not completely shut off but dims the power.
X5 will receive it too.

Cylinder dimming ... It's the VALVETRONIC system. BMW have been relying on this solution for years now & improving it even further with every new engine generation.

The VALVETRONIC system delivers gains in efficiency—including improved engine response and better engine torque development—over the entire rpm range of the engine. The throttle-free load control system works like a dimmer, affecting all cylinders equally; the engine continues to run smoothly and its acoustic properties remain unchanged, something which cannot be said of cylinder deactivation.

Dimming instead of switching off results in lower fuel consumption and emission levels, while maximum dynamics, matchless comfort and sophisticated power delivery are achieved. In addition, this proprietary technology can be used in engines of different sizes and power.

That said ... Valvetronic allows smoother engine run & response yet it's much more complicated system than cyl-deact systems and thus reacts a few thousands of a seconds slower (not affecting regular cars in daily use though). Cyl-deact systems also require special (active) engine mounting - to neutralize the extra vibrations when firing the deactivated cylinders again.

So, instead of deactivating a few cyls completely the VALVETRONIC system dims the activity of ALL cylinders to achieve the same effect.

Both systems have advantages & weaknesses (eg. in running smoothness, reaction time, system complexity, extra requirements in engine development, fuel consumption etc) . .. It's hard to tell which one is better in general. I guess both are just fine & working well - resulting in similar fuel consumption reduction.

But mind BMW are obsessed with linear power deliver, running smoothness & refinement of the engine etc ... so they use the systems that provide such an outcome. Even if the use something that's not really a mainstream solution. I guess Honda is doing the same.

US ordering guide is with dealers. Not impressed with the wheel choices on new X5

I like the xline and style 451, 20" wheel. But in general and unfortunately nothing to make a big song and dance about. Btw, Where is the traditional Y-Spoke rimo_O

sparkling brown? How it looks like?!
I will buy 35i, just choose between Dark Graphite with xLine or Mineral White with M-pack! Sorrowfully, that there is no sparkling bronze((( I would to buy one in this color. My neighbor has LCI X5 in sparkling bronze. It is awesome color in person, very elegant and graceful. On the sun looks rich and splendid.

There are more colors to come ... blue, red, silver, bronze etc. More trims, more leather choices etc.

Should be New York since US is biggest market, but it could be Shanghai too as SUV demand is on the rise over there.
I doubt if we are still the biggest market- China seems to be biggest market if I am not mistaken.
