4 Series (F32) [Spyshots] F36 BMW 4er Gran Coupe (Spy Pics & Info)

The first generation of the BMW 4 Series consists of the F32 (coupé version), F33 (convertible version) and F36 (five-door liftback version, marketed as 'Gran Coupé') compact executive cars. The 4 Series was created when BMW spun off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the 3 Series into a separate series. Production: July 2013 – September 2020
I'll be disapointed if the this 4er will be a GT like the A5 SB rather than a GC like the 6er GC.

I think it is still the 4er GC and not 4er GT. If you look at both pics of 4er Coupé and 4er GranCoupé you can see the trunk has the same connection to the rear windows what hints at a sedan trunk ratehr than a hatchback.

Edit: Afterall it doesn't tell anything, the 5er GT has the same connection.

This car sits too low, the roof line is too low to be 3er GT!

It's definitely a 4er-based vehicle! This could indeed be a 4er GC / GT prototype! Yet the kink & D-pillar somehow indicate a 5dr fastback layout (ala Audi A5 SB). Will they badge it GC or GT??? o_O

So, I stand corrected! It's not a 3er GT prototype but 4er GC /GT one!
Sorry for all the confusion.
That's the point that i got from the first time that this could be the new 4er GC/GT because it definitely looks different from the previous prototype if it was the 3er GT. The roof line looks lower & the trunk looks longer..

And what is this actually? It does look sleeker & lower from the first pic but doesn't have boot lid like the alleged-4er GC/GT.. (confused..)

My apologies.
It is the Gran Coupe , I spoke to someone today who confirmed it is the Gran Coupe.
What I was told is that the rear door is partially covered by the camoulage and extends all the way to the C-Pillar the look is very CS-like around the C-Pillar with the sharper hofmeister kick seen on the Concept.
The car is not a hatchback though but a full four door with a shortened CS style deck with a standard trunk and not a hatch.

I really need to keep up to date with the movements inside BMW a bit difficult given my current role now.

Hi Scott,

I normally take your word as gold, but this time I don't think so. The car in the pic is clearly a hatchback, with extra windows behind the rear doors. So not a 4 GC.

Moreover, I have seen the 3 GT in the flesh at a BMW clinic, huge pillars and all, and I am convinced it is the car in the pics, although the camo is now like those used in the 4er prototypes.

My 2 cents.

My apologies.

I still think it is the same car, the original camoed to look like the 5 GT, the newer one camoed to look like a 4er. But in fact I see a hatchback with extra windows behind the rear doors in both cases. The only difference is the trapezoidal vs triangular piece of glass behind the part of the window that goes down into the rear door. Just MHO.

Normally it is not too long since initial Spy photographs that the renders of "What Could Be?" begin to appear.
Now that the 4er Gran Coupe has begun public testing the first (of possible many) renders have appeared via auto media site TopSpeed.com.

Normally I only post renders that have a fair amount of accuracy in them and here they managed to uncover some of the camouflage to show you what is actually going on underneath.
Like both the 4er Coupe and Cabrio, underneath the camouflage lies vacumed plastic panels and foam stuck to the body to give it a very bulky appearance.
It is very clever because it changes the perceptions of the car from a viewers stand point.

Here they have managed to uncover the c-pillar details in otherwords - 4er Gran Coupe is a four door with conventional trunk and as BMW have stated that extra glass after the initial rear door opening , prolongs the car and increases the proportions making it look longer. Which is why they do not use that on four door models. Another reason is that the elegance of the hofmeister as part of the actual opening lends a more substantial grace and overall classic BMW appearance.

The render shows what to expect underneath the camouflage but some of the initial details such as the rear lights are far from original.
The overall look is more grand and sportier than the F30.

The 6er Gran Coupe is apparently off to a great start , even though it is late to the party hence why BMW are investing in a downsized version to capture the market that want luxury concepts but in a more compact and price-effective package.
The 4er Gran Coupe will follow the same philosophy as the 6er Gran Coupe and bring that feeling of special luxury with a sporting dynamic edge to the mid-class just as the X4 will bring the attributes of the X6 to a wider audience.

Although late to the party with the 6er Gran Coupe, BMW will be one of the first in the segment with the 4er Gran Coupe.

Where have you been my man?... you post once in a month :(

ON: They look too much alike...
I'm just here watching the elders "teaching" each other. This site has been an obligation to me every time i browse the internet, especially when we're waiting for the "Big Boss" to get revealed. So, How are you too?;)

Btw, IMO, this 4er GC has a better proportion compared to 6er GC. Really looking forward to see it. :)

The question you have to ask is why is there a seperate panel covering the rear wing at the C-Pillar ?
It is clearly hiding the door opening which is integrated into the hofmeister kick formed glass.
Some of the side profile shots actually show more of the Coupe esque four door shape but there is still a lot of padding at the rear of the car especially around the C-Pillars and the bootlid area making it higher than it actually is and disguising the more fluid rising coupe rear.

Can you tell us something about the interior? Will it be like the 3er series or something else?

I'm great, mate :) PM me whenever you have some spare time :)

Given how popoular both the sedan and coupe versions of the 3 series are I have no doubts in my mind that this one will be an absolute cracker offering best of both worlds.

In my world:
2 doors = 2 seats
4 doors = 4 seats

So yes, a 4 Series GranCoupé (F36) and a Cayman (981), what more do you need? (except an LFA :D)
