I always switch to winter tyres because simply it is not worth the struggle when trying to drive in snowy , icy conditions and I would say they are a very good investment for people in other countries who do not use them during the winter. If I take my own car to Geneva then the Winter Tyres remain it is just easier.

Sure you alter the looks of your car with smaller wheels (in this case the M5 Touring has eighteen inch alloys instead of nineteen)
But safety and durability is the big issue . But what I love about this season is that I can remove the original wheels get them refurbished and scrubbed removing all the road tar deposits and store them for the Spring so they look like new.
So that when winter ends and Spring begins you can properly get the car scrubbed and deep cleaned inside and out because it is relatively impossible at this time of year to keep things in order , especially if you have a light coloured upholstery in this case "Silverstone II" , bar a once over with the vacumn cleaner.

The rims on the Cashmire Silver car posted above appear most appropriate. The car looks stunning, even in a color that I personally like the least. At least regarding all photographs of the 6er that I've seen so far.

Just goes to show how important rims are.

There are many countries for example the UK where there is no legislation and no compulsory use of winter tyres and you see them scrambling for grip on a snow covered road equipped with only summer tyres.

That lady could have prevented her 1er from smashing into that house if she had winter tyres? that and em... not leaving the car in gear of course or knowing that her car was rear wheel drive in the first place.

I find the headlights of these two seem to have a very similar design.:D

As long as the thread wanders, I wonder if the F12/13 will have adequate time to wring out the electrical/electronic systems in this new car?

My coupe had a variety of aggravating gremlins. My trunk would decide to signal my dashboard that it was open, when opened and closed after a period of time unopened. The instruments were convinced that the trunk lid was open, and would only relent after pulling over, reopening and reclosing the trunk. Going several days or weeks without opening the trunk, and then opening it and closing it would cause this whole cycle to repeat.

Occasionally, upon opening the windows, when it later came time to close them, they would only go up halfway and go back down. This one could be rectified by turning the car off, then restarting. Most times. Sort of a Microsoft repair. I remember the first time this one raised its head, I was in the process of parking in downtown New Orleans where I was not about to leave the car with its windows open.

When the dealer would try to fix these problems or update software, the network design in the car required each CPU, no matter how minor to be updated and recognize the new software, even if the update had nothing to do with its function. Sometimes what should have taken a few minutes required days, as the updates, which took hours because of the way the car's network and update protocol was written required starting from the beginning.

Once when I went in for a software update it took three days, and when I got the car back the update had not taken place. "We tried over and over again, and the car will simply not take this update!" So I was without the car for days and over a weekend for nothing.

These "gremlins" affected a lot of the early cars, and many experienced far more severe, and aggravating electrical/electronic problems than mine. Convertible tops that would cease their function somewhere between up and down. Engine control software that would permit only limping back home. Refusals to start at all. Random warning signals.

While I loved the car, these blemished my experience, and for me, mandated selling the car before the end of its warranty period. I simply could not grasp owning the car and paying for resolving these software and/or electrical problems.

I traded it for a new 550 SL, and the car was flawless, but I could not develop the affection I had for the 645Ci.

Let's hope for no repeats.

Nice car. Nice sounding, too.

Unfortunately, the sort of "MUST HAVE NOW" effect that M-Bs' CLS 63 AMG promotional features evoke appear to be absent here.

Perhaps using a car similar to the Carbon Black F13 displayed at this years' NAIAS or the Vermillon Red F13 used in the WhatCar? video, or both, would have served to whet the appetite a bit more.

The Orion Silver car is perfect for the South African weather.
Or any location where the sun shines.

And yes that is a Great White Shark breaching at 24:36.:D

The video of the convertible is just making me more impatient to buy the coupe and get on with it!

Impressions from the video are that:

: South Africa is beautiful, I'll have to add it to the travel bucket list
: The car is much better looking moving than most of the still shots
: The NAV tombstone is more innocuous in the video than it seemed before
: The Orion Silver body color is a tad bland to my eye
: I am hoping that there are interior color combinations that have less stark contrasts than the beauty shot car
: The overhangs don't seem excessive to me in motion
: Others have mentioned body panel gaps, and they seemed noticeably wide in the video; I hope they are narrower in the production car
: I was struck by the importance of the right color choices in this car, both interior, and exterior

Bring on the coupe!

How is this panoramic roof suppose to open?? Do we take it out like the old Pontiac Firebird T-roof??

And even if it were, the tech exists in many forms, and it would be simply stupid to think MB will be the only one with such a roof.
They are first though, and BMW doesn't have this tech yet. Maybe the next gen 6er, definitely not this one!
