GLE [Spyshots] 2015 Mercedes GLE Facelift (formerly M-Class) (X166)

The Mercedes-Benz GLE, formerly Mercedes-Benz M-Class (designated with the "ML" nomenclature), is a mid-size luxury SUV produced by the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz since 1997. In terms of size, it is slotted in between the smaller GLC and the larger GLS, the latter with which it shares platforms.
Mercedes-Benz GLE likely debuting on April 1 in New York
On sale September 12

German media is reporting the Mercedes-Benz GLE will be unveiled on April 1 at the 2015 New York Auto Show.

Mercedes-Benz previously announced the GLE (M-Class facelift) is coming this year and according to a reliable German source it appears the mid-size SUV will make its debut as early as April at the New York Auto Show before going on sale starting September 12.

Previous spy shots have shown modest design changes influenced by the GLE Coupe from where it will inherit most of the engines. Chances are there's going to be a GLE 450 AMG equipped with a twin-turbo V6 3.0-liter delivering 367 HP (270 kW) and 520 Nm (383 lb-ft) which will be positioned below the range-topping GLE 63 AMG powered by a twin-turbo V8 5.5-liter with 557 HP & 700 Nm in the standard model and 585 HP & 760 Nm in the S variant.

There's also going to be a plug-in hybrid version set to be commercialized as the GLE 500e, but details about the hardware setup are not available at this point. However, a report from last year said it will combine a small turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor, a specially developed automatic transmission and a lithium-ion battery pack. It will allegedly do 50 mpg US (60 mpg UK or 4.7 liters / 100 km) and provide a very short electric range.

Taking into account the public reveal is set for April 1, Mercedes-Benz could decide to show the GLE online next week.

Hmmm....so it will have the rounded face of the GLE coupe but still retain the squared off rear...

Did you really expect them to make extensive sheetmetal changes for an update? This was to be expected...it's just like the W212 E-class.

An MB Passion reader spotted a GLE 63 at AMG in Affalterbach. :)

It's ok...Maybe some higher res pictures will do it more justice. I guess it addresses the ML's weakest spot, the overly soft front end.

Mercedes needs to do much better on the next ML.

The X5, apart from it's slightly too long profile, is ruggedly handsome. The Cayenne is just sex.

Absolutely. A facelift cannot resolve a silhouette that's like an MPV. Here's hoping that the next gen is not like that.

Agree with you. The problem with this ML is that it looks like a van. The interior is so dated a new screen and steering wheel are not enough to fix it. The rear looks terrible, even when the exhaust pipes and the new rearlight graphics make it less ugly.

The front at least is now better.
