S-Class [Spyshots] 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe/Cabriolet

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class is the designation for top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models and was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, and has remained in use ever since. The S-Class is the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz, being positioned above the other Mercedes-Benz models.

True, however MB also hinted the "star-gazer" may premiere in the second half. :)

"One of them has already been shot by a number of prototype hunters and has dimensions that make any form of camouflage seem like a nice try. The new Mercedes-Maybach Pullman is aimed at governments and the very pinnacle of society.

"We will present this incredibly stately and prestigious limousine in the course of the first half of this year. If you ask me, this car is the perfect embodiment of the great tradition of state limousines in the spirit of the 300 and 600."

Without naming it, Mulder also confirmed Mercedes will reveal its first S-Class Cabriolet, which has also been spied in testing in the second half of this year.

"And we will present another particularly attractive S-Class model in the second half of the year. This much I'll tell you: If you're a fan of the stars, you'll have a particularly good view from this car."

The four-seat S-Class Cabriolet will be an additional model for Benz, positioned alongside the two-seat SL-Class roadster and powered by the same V8 and V12 engines.

The massive S-Class range expansion, which we first reported in 2013, aims at the increasing number of "ultra rich" people, especially in countries like China, Russia and the Middle East.

"With the Mercedes-Maybach already presented, and the forthcoming Pullman, plus plans for the second half of this year, we have expanded our S-Class line-up to six models so far: S-Class with short wheelbase, S-Class with long wheelbase, S-Class Coupe, S-Class Mercedes-Maybach, Pullman and 'star-gazer'."

S-Class product marketing manager Lutz Regelmann provided hints as to the direction further expansion might head.

"We definitely have a few more ideas [for the S-Class model family]" he told motoring.com.au.

Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet spied thinly disguised
Debuts this year

A lightly camouflaged prototype of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet has been spied during final testing phase.

The S-Class Coupe is about to lose its fixed metal roof to make room for an electrically retractable soft top for the S-Class Cabriolet which is being described by S-Class project manager Martin Hulder as being "a car for the star gazers." Just like in our previous set of spy shots, there's a thin wrap of camouflage only on the rear half of the car and it seems there are going to be slightly different taillights compared to the S-Class Coupe.

The coupe has a chrome bar running the entire width of the rear end while the third brake light sits at the top of the rear window but for obvious reasons it will be repositioned on the S-Class Cabriolet. Overall, the design is largely carried over from the coupe but this prototype might not have all the final bits and pieces that will be installed on the production car.

Already confirmed for an official reveal later this year, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet will get the same array of engines as the Coupe, all the way up to the twin-turbo V8 5.5-liter inside the S63 AMG Coupe and the twin-turbo V12 6.0-liter from the S65 AMG Coupe. Expect pricing to significantly increase over the equivalent coupe which kicks off in Germany from €122,153.50 for the S500 Coupe whereas the S65 AMG Coupe begins at a hefty €244,009.50.

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet will likely receive its world premiere in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The S class cabrio would be a good looking car. It still is looking good with the camo on. But I would rather see an Ocean Drive type convertible with the sedan grille. It is been missing for 40 or so years.

The S Cabrio is going to be among the hottest Mercedes on sale. The AMG GT, S Cabrio and C63 are going to be a high demand if the owner sites are any indication.

The C217 S-Class Coupe series appears to be amazingly successful. I occasionally get the suspicion that they are more commonplace than the W222 sedans (which simply cannot be correct, can it ?).

In any event, the cabriolet version will surely be an absolute "must have" for the Monaco, Rodeo Drive, Hamptons, Dubai, Isle of Sylt, etc. crowd.

I am not sure if I've stated this earlier somewhere, but I might as well say it...I still wish the S-class Cabrio was 4-doors. It would a truly unique and regal addition to M-B's line-up and in the general car market. It would be a heck of an engineering endeavor, but if anybody can do, it'd definitely be Mercedes-Benz.

I will chime in with those who maintain that the C217 line of cars should consist of: The 2 door coupe...the soon-to-be-presented 2 door cabriolet...and a 4 door coupe. Like them or not-4 door coupes are commanding an ever increasing following.

The coupe already is one of the worlds best looking coupes and I really think this drop top is going to be even more of a looker.
