Is it me or does the new one have less tire on it (sidewalls a bit thinner as well as tire width)?

Aleks sorry for my mistake, I know that one year it is Frankfurt one Paris. I forget that we are in 2013 I thought that we are in 2014 lol and he is reffering at the next year as 2015 so since this year is Frankfurt next year will be Paris. My bad !

Those proportions are the sexiest ever on a Benz coupe. Two things, I hope the interior keeps the roominess (for a coupe) of the current car and that the side windows still have the space to completely disappear when rolled down. This is going to be really something if they get the details right. Look at the stance, like uh...wow.

Window going completely down should not be a problem. Ratio of glass vs door height is so much smaller with the greenhouse being lower compared to the old one. It is this specific proportion that makes a world of difference in sportiness, IMO. It lowers the center of gravity for the overall design. It does bring the CL more in a 6-series level, though. I hope MB keeps up the ultra-premium feel of the S-class with none of the sedan-ness, if you all get what I mean. I now dream of a Coupe S65 AMG or a S63 AMG-S, whichever comes with 4-matic. The SL is totally removed from my wish-list, unless a Black-Series-type package saves the over-medicated design. [Sad for me to say that about an SL].

I believe this is the real deal. As you can see in this photo... the door line on the new version is almost the same as the current one. The roof line on the new car is obviously lower which makes the side windows appear quit narrow, and thay are!
What I don`t want to see is the license plate crevice moved from the back of the boot (where it`s always been), to the frickin bumper. Mercedes is obviously following the BMW 6-Series design Qs... The next CL is forgoing the Lux-coupe in favor of a GT type car.

You can see that there is cladding hiding the bottom part of the rear window. I don't think the rear quarter window/sideline is going to kick up like that.

It does in fact appear that the lower side glass line will ascend towards the C-pillar. Squiggly-pattern tape looks to be covering the trim piece.

We have great news! Yes, for those if you who like to be seen driving an automotive symbol of superiority to their local yacht club, golf course or boulevard, Mercedes-Benz is prepping its latest chapter of luxurious transport - the 2015 S-Class Coupe.



Now I have to admit past large Mercedes coupes have never really grabbed my attention (well apart from the glorious CL 65 AMG), yet they have always looked nice in a vanilla sense. However, in recent spy-shots, Mercedes-Benz has managed to capture my attention in what appears to be a compelling piece of rolling sculpture. So rather than showing an image full of black and white circles on a prototype vehicle, I've rendered something far more visually stimulating for our readers below.

There is no doubt the initial reaction is of typical Mercedes-Benz design, yet the aesthetic boundaries have grown to reveal a much more sublime look than the outgoing car could ever muster. Elements of design are apparent from the Mercedes F700 concept car and the upcoming W222 S-Class sedan - the latter in particular shares its lower and upper side channels, starting from the headlights back to the rear fenders.

Aston Martin-like prominent rear haunches help ground the car with a dynamic stance, whilst the rear loses its current upright tail lamps in place of sleeker, more horizontal LED clusters.

Standing at the front will yield a refined, if slightly blunt view, with its strong MY2014 E-Class-like grille, LED headlights and prominent 3-Pointed star emblem. Inside, the svelte pillar-less greenhouse will be an interior similar in theme to the next S-Class sedan (pictured on the right); appearing more handcrafted with polished metal, hand stitched leather and real wood grain trim.

Expected interior luxuries consist of a split-view, hi-resolution display for the speedometer, navigation and vast infotainment options. Audiophiles will appreciate the clear, ear-blasting Burmester sound and those with a penchant for arriving at their destination refreshed and relaxed, will love the energizing front seats and its hot stone massage feature.


On the safety front, innovative features from the upcoming S-Class sedan will migrate to the coupe; those being Autonomous Driving assist - including Collision-Avoidance, and Park assist. Propelling the bodywork will be either a Twin-Turbo V8 or Twin-Turbo V12, and for those who like being transported in an insane manner can no doubt look forward to AMG's potent versions. We've heard rumors of a diesel-electric hybrid derivative for those who yearn for additional MPG whilst taking those long alternative routes; however, it is unclear if this setup will be confirmed.

Its main competitors will include the Bentley Continental GT and possibly the Rolls-Royce Wraith, yet this latest edition has the promise of tackling even the likes of the Aston Martin DB9. As for how the latest coupe will be marketed - it is expected to drop the CL moniker for the slightly less confusing S-Class Coupe namesake, with a launch dated expected late next year.

Overall, it show's huge promise with a much more athletic silhouette combined with leading safety assists and performance. How well it fares in the sales charts will remain to be seen, yet it has the potential to do quite well in such a niche segment. What do you think - winner or wallflower?

It looks hot in your rendering. I think the CL/S class coupe is a car much exclusive than the regular S class sedan. The CL is the supreme car of the world.

I can't add much but in my humble opinion the CL is going to be nothing less than a MASTERPIECE! The sleek and narrower glasshouse + sloping roof looks so...so...damn good!

Honestly I am not a sedan guy and if I was in the privileged position and in the market for a high-end sedan, it would be the Bentley Mulsanne. That said I will under the same circumstances have the CL above any Bentley coupe or the RR Wraith. I have had this 'thing' for the CL, since the day my late dad bought his 560SEC back in the day...man if I can find a mint one I will become a member of the MBSA Classic Car Club tomorrow.

The Mercedes 560 SEC and the BMW M635CSi from 1980s are the best looking modern GT coupes. The only car that could rival them and even upset these two in looks is also from the same era, the beautiful Jaguar XJS. IMO neither Mercedes nor BMW or Jaguar could come up with better coupe designs since these legendary cars are replaced although the 850CSi was a better replacement for 635CSi than the W140 based Merc CL.

Unadultrated athletic elegance. Mercedes-Benz designers usually accomplish a mission well done with their large coupes (whether they be CLs', SECs' or SEs'). But this one looks to be absolutely "out of the park". I can still recall my unbridled boyhood enthusiasm when the W111 220SE/300SE coupes'/cabriolets were presented 50 years ago. Those cars became enduring "must have" fixtures in the garages of the worlds' wealthy and famous. Legendary automobiles. This new coupe shall repeat this history.

...and may I add that I find it quite satisfying that Mercedes-Benz finally appears to be decisively divorcing itself from those dim and disturbing Schrempp (former DC CEO)/Pfeiffer (former head of exterior design) years. I trust that the current R231 SL series will be the last "questionable" RWD M-B product in terms of exterior design.

It will probably be slightly different, but not by much. Just like the previous models.
