CLS-Class (C218) [Spyshots] 2015 Mercedes-Benz CLS Facelift SpyShots/info

The C218 Mercedes-Benz CLS is the second generation of the Mercedes CLS-Class range of four-door coupé sedans. It is succeeded by the CLS (C257). Body styles: C218 (4-door coupé), X218 (5-door shooting brake). Production: January 2011 – December 2017
I think we shouldn't overestimate the design of C219 compared to C218. C219 is very good from sideview and backview. The front however lacks beauty. The headlights don't look good on it. Alos the grille is too "shy". Last point, the grille, was slightly better after the FL.
Frontside of C218 is absolutely stunning, with those beautiful headlights and mature grille.

No hope for this car unless they do something dramatic like on the E-Class.

I agree on that, but the exterior is just... I don't know, it didn't age really well. First-gen CLS is still the best looking car in that segment, closely followed by 6GC.

Now, the next-gen CLS might be something spectacular...

Wait a minute...I thought the only thing you disliked was the line on the side (which the S-class ended up getting).

The CLS is absolutely flawless in my opinion. The only Mercedes I would ever put over it is the S-class in terms of design (SLS would be tied).

SMH...where is this CLS hate coming from?

I loved the first CLS, but the current one is simply amazing IMO.

At this point the only thing I like is the rear. The front lights are too big and the grille too broad and flat, looks like a battering ram at times, and yes the side is complete disgrace IMO.

Yes the SLS is stunning in roadster form for me. Why? Because it is a clean design. CLS is a mess. The new S-Class is the best interpretation or this new design language IMO. The first CLS is a clean uncluttered design and Mercedes knows that such designs are what made the brand. They stripped away all the fussiness on the E-Class and it looks so much better now. Mercedes' fronts are where the problem is, CLA, SL, E Sport model, even the SLK, all of which have either lights that are too big or grilles that are just too wide for such a small car. You have to get a SL63 to get a better looking front on an SL. I've been looking hard to replace my IS250 with a Benz, but none of their new and/or reasonably priced models appeal enough to me now in their showroom. Its heartbreaking.

The new C-class will fit the bill. Don't worry about it. In 12 months you'll be loving your W205.

Oh now that you have the 6 series the CLS lights are too big? Lol...j/k

As far as I'm concerned, I just hope the facelift doesn't mess it up.

The side seemes the same. The form, outer lines of the headlights don't seem to have changed either. The "innerlife" of the headlights will be different though. From what can be seen on the picture, the backlights and fender, also unchanged. Only the frontfender/bumper and grille (diamondpointed just as can be seen on CLA) get a make over.

I think we don't have to worry, HoH :)

To say that the current CLS is ugly/bad/stupid or anything like would be overstatement. It IS amazing, there is no question about that. And it is a better car than the first gen CLS. I'm saying this to make it clear that there is no true hate from me to this car.

However, when the C219 first appeared... I was left speechless. To me, that car still looks fresh like it just rolled off the production line, and it is almost 10 years old! That is timeless design, that is what trendsetter should do, and that is why so many other brand started making not just 4 door coupes, but coupe-ish like limousines (e.g. Opel/Vauxall Insignia).

And of course, there is personal preference: to me, C219 was elegant and powerful at the same time, the C218 lost that elegant bit, which is important to me.

Allthough this isn't a real photo, I think headlights and grille are coming close to the real thing. Grille perhaps slightly to small?

^^ Very interesting pics. Especially the 4th one; why is the naviscreen covered? Bigger screen or tacked up like the coming W205? (latter which I hardly can imagine). Does anyone has a clue?
