Macan [Spy Shots] Porsche Macan: Spyshots & Info

The Porsche Macan is a compact luxury crossover SUV (D-segment) produced by Porsche since 2014. It is the smaller SUV from Porsche below the Cayenne. The first-generation Macan went on production from February 2014 with petrol and diesel engine options. In 2024, Porsche released the second-generation Macan which is a battery electric vehicle built on the dedicated Premium Platform Electric (PPE) EV platform.
A 5er or E rival is still downmarket for Porsche.

An E Class/ 5 Series competitor in the US would have started at around the $55,000 mark. That would have meant that the starting price would have been roughly about the same/ or slightly dearer than the Boxster or the Cayenne.

Whereas the Macan probably will start at around the $40,000 mark, making it the cheapest Porsche ever to the market.

Anyhow, too late now as it will be here soon.

True, but another sedan. One is enough IMO.

I really don't understand all this down-market/too many models talk about Porsche watering-down the brand. We heard these same arguments when they introduced the Boxster/Cayman and the Cayenne. Both models have been very successful and have provided substantial additional revenue to their R&D. To me, as long as they hold true to their brand identity, meaning these new vehicles drive like Porsche's, the more the better.

And they are not just going down-market, a halo car is right around the corner.

I think for me its an exclusivity thing, but I do agree that if they make it a true Porsche in the segment, no real harm done. Thing is where does it stop. I just don't think Porsche should be in every segment that BMW/MB is in, but VW is cash heavy and can literally do anything they want right now.

It's the Panamera and the Cayenne that are the main drivers of Porsche's current sales success. They are a perfect fit for what customers are looking for in this segment. The Macan will be a global cash-cow because there is demand for these downsized luxury vehicles , when I say demand I mean demand. The timing is perfect for the Macan especially for those that cannot financially stretch to a Cayenne and here is the more accessible option with the same premium status . The Macan will not be bargain-basement despite its intentions it will still be a Porsche and that will be the catalyst for its success. The same stands for the BMW X4 it will bring the out-of-reach X6 Sport Activity Coupe to a more accessible audience. Given the demand for Segment busting Sport Activity concepts I would not bet against a mini-Macan possibly based on the Q3 and one such car known is a Cayenne Coupe which according to industry rumours is a raised 911 with four doors - Porsche's actual true X6 rival within the next few years.

Bot the Porsche Macan and the BMW X4 will launch within a short window meaning that they will be the first examples to benefit the from the sales spoils.

A smaller Porsche than the Macan? NO!!!!! Please no. I'd rather see a E/5er figher before that, if they have to expand more.

X4? Smaller X6?

Why not there is a BMW X2 model currently being conceived. SAV and SAC sales will continue to grow thought this decade and you will see more premium options for this segment. No manufacturer will ignore rising demand for SUVs especially when they have the highest profit margin.

I guess by 2030 all cars will be "SUV-GT-COUPE-VAN"'s. Then very few proper sportscars and with most of them being hard-top roadsters/convertibles.

So you would like a Porsche badged Golf? Maybe a Ferrari badged Giulietta? As long there are there are the so called hypercars, 918 Spyder and F70...

Maybe you missed the drives like a Porsche part of my post? If your comment relates to shared platforms, again as long as it drives like a Porsche, fine with me.

And BTW, I own a Porsche for the record. Bought the wife a new Boxster in the summer of 2010, wonderful car.

Hope that answers your rather condescending question.;)

An what then about the Quattroporte? It drives like a Ferrari, not like a Chrysler, and still negativism and criticism towards it.

What about it? It doesn't drive like a Ferrari anymore.

"Pour out some grappa, for the four-door Ferrari is no more."

IMO, other than the sheer look of it and the V8 engine there is nothing unique about the car anymore. That said it will likely either flop badly or be a wild, out of the park sales success now. Hard to describe it, but the Q is now more accessible and more functional, but it has lost of all character that made the old car such a lust object, again all IMO, but that seems to be the impression from most of the press also. Clearly the interior is a refinished 300.

But that is not FIAT alone, VAG, BMW and DAIMLER too. In fact the whole car industry.

I have the feeling X3, GLK and Q5 will not sell once the Macan will be on sale. What to say about Lexus that which to enter this market...
