GT [Spy Shots] Mercedes-AMG Four Door Coupe

The Mercedes-AMG GT is a series of 2-door sports cars produced by Mercedes-AMG. While not directly replacing the SLS AMG (competing in a different segment), it is the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG.
^ Probably. :)

This is a very interesting car.

Depending on how it is configured, its' visual appearance will range from sublime to ridiculous.

In "old school elegance" specification, it could be absolutely brilliant.

What will this car acheive? We know that it won't have a unique interior. Will it be small and more agile than the E/CLS63S or will be a big Panamera-esque cruiser.

Why would AMG release a vehicle that's a cruiser? That's the opposite of what a AMG specialty vehicle should be about. It'll start out filling the hole where the AMG CLS63 would've been (you realize it's gone right?) then go beyond it. This should be the most hard core sedan in the AMG lineup.

Here's my take on the 290:
It's a CLS 63s AMG with a different body, and in the top version, hybrid support. I know MB is on a roll but charging circa 30.000€ extra over a technically identical car (CLS - which is 98% an E-class) is a bit too much for me. Sure, approx. 750 hp is great and it looks nice, but the GT4 has nothing in common with the sports car AMG GT except a similar look. Three cars that are very, very similar and all based on a common platform: E --> CLS --> GT4. I can't even list all manufacturers that have done platform engineering for margin but I had hoped that AMG would go a different, more sporty, more true, and more heritage influenced route.

Illusory, I know...

But I think that had AMG worked its' "4.0L V8 BiTurbo + perhaps hybrid tech" on a somewhat more muscular C257 CLS, the resulting product (AMG CLS 63 +S) would have been grand to behold. There's something about the X290s' rear end that bothers me.

Looking great on the move..That front end looks so aggressive on the move.

The "in motion" footage is flattering.

The examples sans that ridiculous fixed rear wing appear to be quite elegant actually...
