GT [Spy Shots] Mercedes-AMG Four Door Coupe

The Mercedes-AMG GT is a series of 2-door sports cars produced by Mercedes-AMG. While not directly replacing the SLS AMG (competing in a different segment), it is the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG.

2019 Mercedes-AMG GT Four-Door Begins Testing

I think the hump is just silly games and hiding the slope of the rear.

Exciting to see the monster getting tested.

Nope, it isn't. I knew that those two cars were coming. What I didn't know was how similar they would look. We're talking about two different cars on the same MRA plattform. The CLS - and yes it will be called CLS - and the GT4. The CLS has the internal code C257 whilst the GT4 is the X290.

^ because they CAN!

Only 'because they can' does not mean that they should.

I don't think AMG are listening to internet pundits on what they should and shouldn't bring, yet!

I don't think so either. Thank God.

This car is going to be an E class with different body. Which is perfectly fine, but I don't really understand the 'why' of it.

From the onset it was hinted that this GT4 would be based on a stretched aluminum platform from the AMG GT, therefore everything will be different from the upcoming CLS.

The rear tires look like they're at least thick 305mm section, which no other MB-based saloon has had to prevent tire roar and maintain comfort levels.

^Not based on GT. Tobias Moers recently confirmed that the AMG sedan is built on a heavily reworked MRA platform seen on the E63.

Desire to be considered a true Porsche competitor.

C/E/S in AMG guises are BMW M's rivals, while AMG's own cars will be aimed at the Porsche (at this moment, at 911 and Panamera. I wouldn't be surprised if SLC was moved to the AMG's portfolio, and aimed at the 718 Boxter).

Just like Panamera shares it's platform among the VW Group, so too will 'GT4' be based on Daimler's MRA platform.

CLS (and whatever it's 3rd generation ends up being called) is aimed at the A7 and 6GC.

This car is going to be an E class with different body.

Which brings me back to my point: what is the role of the CLS now? If the GT4 would be based on the same platform (transaxle) as the GT, I would be perfectly fine.
But no, the CLS and the GT4 are based on the SAME platform, they will share the SAME engines (more or less) and they look almost identical. I simply don't get the point of this car.

Which is nonsense. The Panamera full on competes with the E63S already. And the M5 does too. No extra car is needed for this.

Marketing nonsense of the highest order.

^ Totally agree. AMG should have just showed this car a hoMage concept instead and put a full stop to it.
