Lamborghini won't target Nürburgring SUV record with Urus

Lamborghini Urus Concept

It’s been a long time coming, but the Lamborghini Urus SUV is nearly a reality. However, unlike some of its supercar brethren, the Urus is not being developed as a speed king for performance driving.

Motoring reports Lamborghini doesn’t have much interest in proving the Urus around the Nürburgring, as the Italian brand did with the Huracán Performantewhich just set the lap record at the German track. In fact, the Urus will house a completely different set of objectives than the brand’s super cars.

“If you go to the Nürburgring, you go to be the fastest,” said Lamborghini Asia Pacific boss Andrea Baldi. "The Urus is a different concept... the Urus will have a target that will also be contemplating some off-road [strengths]."

“It’s a car that’s supposed to be high-performance, but that capability off-road you will see," Baldi added.

The Urus will have two engine choices: a twin-turbocharged V-8 and a plug-in hybrid setup, with the latter coming after launch. But why no naturally-aspirated V-10 or V-12?

“Sometimes it’s not really a matter of emissions, it’s a matter of taxation," Baldi explained. "If you go to one of the most important markets in the future for us given we’re producing an SUV, China, every time you increase the engine capacity by one liter, you pay many more taxes.”

LP: It starts leaking some definitive info on the car: 650 HP, 22" rims, prices starting (Italy price with VAT) at 190 K euro, sand crossing and jumping ok. It's not an offroad car, but it was tested and verified that it can play for a long time on sand hills you have in the Emirates and so on, up and down, jumps, sand drifting and so on. It will be a good toy for Sheikh's sand plays. First customer deliveries: late spring 2018

ciao

It's a car engineered and developed here at Sant' A gata, with a lot of esclusive features. Yes, it will have a lot of Audi switches and so on, the V8 twin turbocharged is a development of the Audi (and Bentley) one, but the car is a Lamborghini and not an Audi nor a Porsche. It will differ from the Porsche Cayenne much more than the LP640 Performante from an Audi R8. Much and much more: trust me.

I don't have a gain on Lamborghini sales, so I can say what I know and I have no reason to tell lies!

Ciao

Lamborghini Urus To Offer 650HP From A Twin-Turbo V8

Details about the powertrains of Lamborghini’s much awaited Urus were revealed by the company’s boss, Stephano Domenicali.
AutoNews that the 2018 Lamborghini Urus will be powered by a 650hp twin-turbo V8 as standard, with a plug-in hybrid model to follow a year after the car’s official launch.

Lamborghini plans to build 1,000 units of the Urus in 2018 and 3,500 annually starting from 2019. Domenicali said that if demand proves to be higher, the production rate could grow as well.

The new model is expected to be revealed towards the end of the year at Lamborghini’s factory in Sant’ Agata. The new Urus will be produced there, alongside the Huracan and the Aventador.

The new model will be based on the same platform with other big SUVs of the Group VW, including the Audi Q7, the Bentley Bentayga and the next-gen Porsche Cayenne.

Sales are expected to begin in Europe during the second quarter of 2018, with the U.S. market to follow in the third quarter of the same year.

I can't wait for Ferrari to announce their SUV , even though they've said they won't build one.

A 650hp VAG Group V8 is a nice start, but I still think in order to make this vehicle truly unique they need to find a way to get the V12 in there with say 775-800hp.

They are not far off. The GT4Lusso/FF has four seats, a hack and four wheel drive. All you have to do is jack it up, add to more door and it becomes an SUV or crossover.

Lamborghini Urus Caught Tackling Nurburgring For First Time

Could the Urus be the quickest SUV around the ‘Ring?
The Lamborghini Urus super-SUV can't come soon enough. Already we know that it will come standard with a 650-horsepower (484-kilowatt) biturbo V8 under the hood, and thanks to a few renderings and early spy photos, we have a general idea of how it will look. But the biggest question is: how will it perform on the track?

Our spy photographers recently caught up with Lambo’s new SUV on the Nurburgring, putting that 650-hp (484-kW) biturbo V8 (we think) through its paces. Even with all that power under the hood, Lamborghini has already made clear that it doesn’t care about lap records when it comes to this new SUV, meaning the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S’ record is safe… for no

The body, edgy as it may be, is still covered from headlight to tailgate in camouflage. Overall the lines are reminiscent of the original concept, if not a bit subdued in line with its siblings like the Huracan. The Urus will ride on the same underpinnings as the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga. Porsche’s next Cayenne and VW’s new Touareg will also use the same hardware.

Full performance details on the upcoming Urus are still well under wraps. We do know that alongside the standard biturbo V8, the Urus will eventually come with a plug-in hybrid option, similar to the Bentayga. The two powertrains will be a first for the supercar maker, and could even spawn a pure electric version. Head of Asia Pacific region for Lamborghini, Andrea Baldi, says that the Urus will make its debut in December. Production is scheduled to begin early in 2018.

If it's based on the same platform as the Q7 and Bentyga, there will be space for a V12 under the bonnet.

While everything with a raging bull on the hood makes my stomach stir in unpleasant ways, I have a feeling that this might turn out almost ok...

This and the Audi Q8 are going to be nearly identical under the skin IMO.

The front bumper seems incredibly busy.

I wonder how much of that (granite countertop-looking) forged carbon it'll get for interior trim.

It sounds very dull, hopefully the final version will sound better. Still can`t unsee all the similarities to Audi`s big SUV`s.

Lamborghini Urus Shows Its Gaping Intakes on Nurburgring, Camouflage Is Weak

One of the prototypes that have been a constant presence on the Nurburgring this year is the Lamborghini Urus, with the Sant'Agata Bolognese SUV having shown up on the Green Hell again this week.

Even while covered in heavy camouflage, the high-riding Raging Bull can't conceal its gaping front fascia air intakes, with the stunning appearance of the Lambo already being obvious.

The posterior of the Urus will be at least as spectacular as its nose, and yet the more serious camo found on the tail of the car prevents us from zooming in on the details.

Speaking of covered bits, the piece of spy footage at the bottom of the page allows us to catch a glimpse of the dashboard silhouette. And seeing guessing the otherworldy cabin design language of the exotic automaker inside an SUV is enough to capture our attention.

As with the previous Urus sightings, the prototype is surprisingly silent. In fact, the only time when we get a proper sample of the inevitable aural might packed by the machine is during a downshift that see the car going from second into first gear before entering a roundabout found just outside the track.

Make no mistake, though, the production model will display the overly extrovert decibel attitude that characterizes the brand.

The Italians have already confirmed that the engine compartment of the Urus will accommodate a 650 hp twin-turbo V8. Nevertheless, a plug-in hybrid model should also land later in the vehicle's life cycle.

Lamborghini could follow Bentley's example by using its first SUV to introduce a plug-in hybrid powertrain. However, while Crewe has already confirmed that it will offer such hardware for every model in its future lineup, we'll have to wait and see if the Raging Bull aims to spread the eco magic showcased on the Asterion past the Urus.

The Urus is expected to become Lamborghini's most affordable model, with the SUV potentially coming with a starting price sitting below $200,000. Expect the newcomer to land next year.
