There are still plenty emerging market countries with enormous populations for which:
a) EV-supporting infrastructure is years away
b) legislation isn't regulating diesel to death
So, the long-term undesirability and demise of diesel is far less of a certainty than you so confidently portray.

It's selling as well as or better than ever; its sales have been surgically consistent year after year and continue to be so, which is what matters.

We're talking about an ultra luxurious car for the upper class. For rich people. They don't want diesel powered cars, and the two biggest markets (US and China) don't even offer diesel X7 versions for the current model. Middle East like UAE it's zero sales for the diesels too.

Your long term story is for the masses, and I don't disagree there. The BMW X7 is not meant for 'emerging' markets at all though clearly so this is all pretty meaningless.

However, a ladder frame SUV for emerging markets with diesel engines sounds like an excellent proposition indeed. They can literally conquer the world with that if played correctly and priced accordingly.......there's so many markets where BMW is a non factor for various reasons.

I think saying it's going to be dated is harsh. It's still very competitive and nothing drives better in its class.

The only reason why I mentioned diesel is that it suits this type of vehicles. I test drove an X7 diesel a few months ago. The B57 is a lovely engine and so quiet from the outside and inside that you wouldn't know that it's a diesel.

For a car of this size and nature, the B57 complements the character of the car much more than the B58. Higher peak torque 720nm vs 520nm and a smoother power delivery too. You don't need to work the engine as hard to get the car moving.

Obviously this is irrelevant in the countries like the USA and Middle East there V8s are popular and fuel cheaper. However in the UK even with the range rovers and defenders, the diesel engines are popular in big SUVs.

We'll see how long that lasts when diesel is 50 cents a liter more expensive compared to gasoline....

it doesnt work to just slap the front/rear of the BMW 7 to the new X7 it doesnt look good at all,there will be some changes that will fit the car better

They will have similarities. The 7er leads the Gran-Klasse Luxury models of which X7 is very much a part of.
The Spyshots of X7 show details that with the reveal of the new 7er confirm similar design features.

It Would be interesting to where a hypothetical 3rd generation 8er would fit here?
Probably use the Skytop/Speedtop facia. You can actually see new 7er influences there too.
