Re: F01 / F01 BMW 7er - Spy Pics & Info Part IV (first FEP pics incl.!!!)

I too say wait until the car is officially shown. How many recent MB models were terrible in camo, only to be stunning when revelead. This new 7 looks like its going back to the 1995-2001 7-Series, and I loved that car. I've never seen such wierd camo though. I'm still not convinced that this what we're seeing now is the same as this:

Which was shown a while back. Then again it may just be the lighting, angle etc.

Re: F01 / F01 BMW 7er - Spy Pics & Info Part IV (first FEP pics incl.!!!)

The car has a good stance from the rear 3 quarters, especially due to the sharp side crease.other than that it's nothing spectacular.Need better pictures for the final judgement.

It's not very exciting to look at, but a little piece of camo can change the whole perception of the car. We can see that it looks like a mix of e65 and e38 (hope it will reveal to be more e38) with Concept CS cues, but to decide if it's looking good or not is a bit early.

We don't see the rear, what makes impossible to see the shoulder line, we can't really see the details of the front only the grille, not even the headlights... So we only see big bits of car without the real relations between these bits, so I think it's too early to judge.

It's already way better than the e65 (which is honestly not hard at all :D imo). It however looks a bit plain, a bit rigid in these pics.

I`ve edited these photos to bring them closer. (this F01 looks like a LWB model)

I don`t know what some of you are complaining about. This car is very handsome and possesses some classic themes like the long flat hood. It doesn`t rake down as sharply as the current one. The profile is coupe like
as the roof archs down with a subtle touch, and the shoulder line just sets it off beautifully! The overhanges are a bit shorter. this new 7er is clearly aimed at younger buyers... it`s much more youthful looking. You guys shouldn`t expect the 7er to get the radicle design Qs from the concept. This is BMWs
excutive express... it`s subtle, classy and elegant. Just the way it should be.

So far, it gets my vote in a big way.. this might be the best 7er yet!

The psychedelic camo is extremely efficient. We can't see the big hood or the rear, it's not like a big black thing that lets you see the shape, with this psych thing you can't see it at all...

It clearly has a classic shape. I think it will look very good. And make everybody forget the e65 very fast.

F01 in the pics is a SWB 7er. Mind that SWB F01 (F02 = LWB) is about 10cm (4 inches) longer than the current car (E65), and has longer wheelbase (14cm = approx. 5.5 inches). So, F01 is only a tad shorter than E66.

fast cleaning job, to give the lines that we know alittel more contrast (which the orignal photo is clearly lacking)

Didn`t know that, thanks. This is going to be quit a large car then.

The SWB 7er will be about the 5.14 meters of the S Class, the E65 is 5.04 meters, and the E66 is 5.18.

What really suprise me is how good works the camo. We still can´t see the front and rear lights shape, and the shots has the wrst angle they could have to see how big is´ts the grille, this pics are really frustate.

I think i will have the same shape for the front lights than the "Pace-Car", and also the grille seems to be wider, seeing the shots toke in Melbourne.

The big doubts are the interior, wich i think will be so close to the X6 one, and the engines (hoping a 735i with 300-350 hp :D).

I have a feeling that these two photos resemble the New 7er. The shape of the front lights, side profile, the position of the kidney grille. If the F01/F02 develops this kind of front then I'm impressed.

The back however is what i've feared it will look like. From far you can see that it resembles the CS taillights, but the lights here are much fatter and wider.

Yeah men, that´s what i was talking about. The fron lights seems to be exacly the same, and the grille looks very near to the FEP´s one, but i think it will be wider than in theese pics.

Btw, i really really hope the little red lights of the down part of the rear are fake, or that they are smaller.

And i still saying the same than on my previous post, the real doubts are the inteiror and the engines, the shapes of the lights have been "revealed" by EnI and Scott.

BMW 7-series interior scooped

BMW’s big 7-series has been scooped by CAR Online, and we’ve got the first pictures of the interior. Our photographer has also taken the best shots yet of the exterior as the 7-series’ disguise is stripped away ahead of the car’s debut at this autumn’s 2008 Paris Motor Show. Visible in our pictures are production-spec rear lights, bonnet and front spoiler, and an interior that has gone conservative.

BMW 7-series: the interior

After the current generation 7-series shocked traditional buyers with its looks, iDrive and a column-mounted gearstick, BMW has had a change of heart with the next-gen limo.

Rather than adopting a Mercedes S-class style digital screen the 7-series keeps analogue dials. And the gearstick returns to the transmission tunnel. It’s the same joystick design used in the 5, 6, X5 and X6.

Sitting next to the gearstick will be the iDrive controller: ignore the fake disguise on our spy shots. The rotary dial controls the majority of the Seven’s functions, which are displayed on the large screen integrated into the dashboard. The iDrive system will be simplified to keep big bankers happy, though the multi-functional steering wheel looks like it will make up for that. Note the multitude of stickers telling the engineers what each button does.

And while BMW is making sure that the 7-series’ exterior isn’t merely an enlarged version of the Five, the interior appears to be just that. Air vents sit below the LCD screen, and below them will be air-con controls and programmable shortcut buttons for the infamous iDrive.

BMW 7-series: the looks

CAR’s exclusive photos show the 7-series with production-spec front bumpers, and we can glimpse the large kidney grille air intakes through the disguise. At the rear the big limo keeps the current car’s raised bootlid, and we can now see the production light clusters for the first time.

The long-wheelbase car we’ve spied will offer two enormous rear armchairs and iDrive for the rear passengers. It’s 140mm longer than the standard car and will also form the basis of Rolls-Royce’s new ‘baby’ limo.

BMW 7-series: the engines

The Bavarian manufacturer will of course offer petrol and diesel engines, but almost all of them will be turbocharged to lower weight, decrease emissions, improve fuel consumption and raise power and torque. The engine line-up is expected to be as follows:

Diesel:
730d – 3.0-litre turbo, 235bhp, 384lb ft
735d – 3.0-litre twin-turbo, 286lb ft, 427lb ft

Petrol:
730i – 3.0-litre, 272bhp, 236lb ft
735i – 3.0-litre twin-turbo, 306bhp, 295lb ft
750i – 4.4-litre twin turbo, 408bhp, 442lb ft

It makes no sense for BMW to offer naturally aspirated petrol V8s, or a diesel V8, and a 6.0-litre V12 petrol may only survive thanks to the Rolls-Royce connection. The current car’s 445bhp and 442lb ft makes little sense when compared with BMW’s new forced-induction V8, where the twin turbochargers are mounted in the V. The transmission for all cars will be a new ZF-sourced eight-speed auto.

The 7-series will also come with four-wheel air suspension, adjustable anti-roll bars, and four-wheel drive will be an option. Also expect night vision and a head-up display.

BMW 7-series: the hybrid and green technology

Jointly developed with Mercedes, Chrysler and GM, BMW will offer a two-mode hybrid option on the 7-series. The system can be mated to either a petrol or diesel engine, but so far BMW has only made noise about the former.

The hybrid system will also offer true regenerative braking, rather than the Regenerative Braking system on BMW’s current Efficient Dynamics models. On them it is merely a system that only charges the alternator under braking and not acceleration.

BMW is however expected to have readied the Efficient Dynamics package for use on the 7-series: so far it has been limited to four-cylinder cars. That means the 7-series will have stop-start technology, the intelligent alternator control and active aero that blanks off the radiator grille when the engine is cold. Expect prices to start at £55,000 when the car goes on sale in the UK in spring 2009.

I really don't think the interior will be a problem for BMW, ESPECIALLY the 7 series. I know that all the new BMW interiors are similar, e.g 5er, X5, X6. I just can't imagine BMW giving the same interior to the 7 series which is their top model/flagship. Like the old 7 series, the interior was totally different from any other models. The old interior really makes the driver feel like they are in a full size luxury sedan which differs from the BMW 5 series.

735i will be my choose then:D. The interior: like a lot that the ovalated form of the iDrive similar to actual 5er is fake, and seems mora like the X6 one. Buuuut, i do not like the steering wheel, it´s X5 one!!, Is BMW going to do the same that Audi and put the SAME steering wheel in all cars? F10 5er seems to have it also.

The body shape is certainly a lot better balanced E.g the side windows are too big and make the side look odd where as the new shape looks great:D

Wow this looks 100% real!! Look at the side, it is EXACTLY what we saw on the black uncamoed spy pic! The front is what we see on the spy too...

Hope the kidneys won't appear as big. It's too much. Not very balanced especially for the sensible 7er.
The rear is too 5er oriented, too, in this PS. but the shape of the taillamps will surely be slightly different in the rear deal.

Aww man..How'd I miss out on this? This is what happens when I don't come on the forums for a day....DAMN WORK AND SCHOOL!!!!

Anyways, I'm liking the new design. As already stated it's not revolutionary, but it's pretty damn good. I can see the more sporty stance and less bulk than the last one already.

Can't wait until the tape comes off.
