M3/M4 [Spy Shots] BMW M3 & M4 (G80/G82/G83)

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

It takes the mass off the side from a sedan, bigger wheels tend to do that imo, so I disagree. And the stance remains perfectly balanced, it’s not like it’s leaning forward like a riced Civic.
I too personally take no issue with smaller diameter front rims vs the rears. Also better for front axle secondary ride.

Hahahha dead

I would say they have taken some ideas from Alfa Romeo here. It's broader, bulkier rather than athletic and similar in its dramatic boldness. That grill certainly evokes a strong historic kinship.
Bavaria is closer to Italy after all.

On a boxy SUV or a traditional sedan though, installing staggered wheels only unsettles a visual balance that had been designed for a classical non-staggered wheel setup to begin with. Even worse, it is clear on the latest X5M/X6M and future M3/M4 that the rear rim is larger only because the rear tire walls are, in turn, that much thinner, so as to keep the overall wheel diameter constant. Not sure if it's just OCD, but I find this front/rear tire wall difference an eyesore (especially on the M3 where the rear tire walls become very thin) and it just defeats the whole staggered wheel purpose, at least visually. I have no idea whether such a setup will improve handling, but it certainly will damage rear axle comfort.

It's a pain for tyre rotation, for sure. Dynamically though it can make a difference no matter what car it's fitted to - the forces going through each wheel are not the same and since the rubber and the air are quite a significantly flexible part of the suspension it all adds up.

All M cars come with different width tyres front to rear so rotation is out. Mixed profiles won't make any difference in this respect.

I meant generally. Staggering in any aspect is probably a good idea 4 teh fiziks, but it can limit rotation options. I don't have to worry about it these days, my E36 had staggered BBS's, the E87, not so much... that's lucky if it's actually got 4 tyres on it of any size.

Finally the cladding has been shed away and the tight body is revealed in all its glory. The thing that ticks me off (besides the vertical grille) is that the headlights are a little too thick for 2020+ and seem like they technically could have been made slightly slimmer.

The BMW exterior design paradigm ushered by the G14/15/16 8 series appears to work more compellingly on a car with a somewhat smaller footprint.

Once the camo if off, the car will with its big grille and trianglar tail lights will look radically different from the 8-Series.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
