5 Series (G60/G61/G68) [Spy Shots] BMW G60 5 Series LCI

The BMW G60/G61/G68 is the eighth generation of the 5 Series. Revealed on May 24, 2023, it commenced production in the summer of 2023 at BMW's Dingolfing Plant, with first deliveries beginning around October 2023. Body styles included: 4-door sedan/saloon (G60), 5-door wagon/estate (G61), and 4-door long-wheelbase saloon (G68).
It would be a huge disappointment if BMW had decided to not include the Neue Klasse styling on to the G60 facelift. This is because the Neue Klasse treatment combined with the extensive updates would be a solid turning point for the G60 generation to regain the beauty that the 5 Series has always deserved (like the F10 and G30 facelift).

Yeah the spy pics look so good
The design of the "neue Klasse" represents more than a new design. Imo it also stands for rethinking the chassis, tech, etc.

The G60/61 does not fit in this. It is a compromise of BEV and ICE and therefore doesn't represent the "neue Klasse" at all and therefore it must not have the design. So I can agree with the decision not to change the front-end design to "neue Klasse" design.

It is simple, the current G60/61: shorten the front overhang, make the nose a bit higher (like the LCI of the 7 G11), change the hood shitline (sorrry shutline) on the side and make the interior quality better. Problem solved.

How do you explain the upcoming X5/iX5, X7/iX7, and G50 3er adopting the Neue Klasse styling language while sticking to CLAR platform?

If the rumor is true (which hopefully is not), how would BMW be able to explain why they are reversing their decision to makeover the G60 from an extensive to a regular update. Meanwhile, the future CLAR based products: the G50, G65 and G67 are receiving the full scale of the Neue Klasse treatment.

They don't really have to explain it, the average person simply will not have a clue about it. Current 5 series buyers will probably just be happy with better residuals.

Certainly is a deeply cynical thing for them to do if true though. I mean, I'm alright with them not making everything look the same, but the last thing the G60 needs is a half-assed LCI.

Absolutely! If the rumor is correct, looks like BMW is forgetting about the Neue Klasse hype and momentum that they are building for years now. Especially when they stated that the Neue Klasse aesthetic is going to spread across the CLAR based vehicles lineup including the facelift and all new models.

Not at all. The next gen CLAR platform will all be NK designs. I hope the 5er isn't left behind this gen.

It is simple, the current G60/61: shorten the front overhang

What you think is simple pretty much requires a whole platform redesign. They didn't stick a long overhang on it for fun.

You make it sound as if the residuals would change significantly if they put a new front on the facelift.
I am of the opinion that it doesn't matter much at all, it's business as usual. The facelift arrives, and the pre facelift loses value. In the same manner as always is the case. Looks don't matter that much here, it's all business lease.

I don't think the neue klasse design concept will be revolutionary. There is a brand in the market that has successfully implemented this: OPEL. I think this design will reduce the flexibility of the front face. The similarities are very obvious even in covered vehicles due to the shape of the headlights. It would be better if it remained exclusive to BEV models (i3, iX3).

Just focus on MB's sad state of affairs.
Or post some sales numbers somewhere.

Your broken record is boring.

A possibility - the Neue Klasse styling for the G60 LCI might not happen after all due to substantial costs.

Although I really like what I see on the "NKL-afide" LCI prototypes, this would hardly be the end of the world. The G60/61 can be a very good looking car as it is.

I don't think they are, they just may be not retro-actively applying it to models that will have been on the market for 3-4 years, which in itself isn't a bad thing, just a shame since it looked alright. The only hype for an NK 5-er has come from the internet, not from BMW.

The problem I'd have with it, is if it's just to save money... they've obviously signed off on it already, and spent a load of money on it, and now... they want to reduce unit cost prices by spending a load more on tamer LCI? Doesn't make a great deal of sense to me.

It's BMW blog bringing this after all..... Hardly the end of all sources.

Very much doubt anything of this article is real. And I guess we'll see soon enough, when they do or do not start testing a FL without NK front....
So far all the evidence at hand points towards an NK-ified G60 LCI. And if they're going to reverse their idea, it has to be soon. The LCI timeline is not moving backwards.

I don't think the neue klasse design concept will be revolutionary.

BMW will surely endeavor to appeal to a broader target demographic. The NKL 3ers will be high unit volume automobiles, with various states of tune and otherwise highly configurable. "Appealling as well as modern without appearing fashionable"" will be far more a priority than "revolutionary".

The design of the 5 (G60/61) is compromised (as is the 7) because of the ICE/BEV layout. This is not the case with the upcoming i3 and G50.

For me, the the side profile of the 5 (G60/61) just is not in balance. There is the long hoooooooooood, than the normal passenger compartment and rear.

The X5/X7 models are less compromised, because of the SUV (SAV) high stance witch hides the batterypack in the floor.

G50 is pure CLAR and the NK theme on it is only cosmetic. I don't see how that's different from the G60. G60 being a hybrid doesn't change that at all.
Everything with an ICE is compromised compared to an EV (or visa versa)

For me too, but this entirely besides the point, imho

There are people out there who think this looks good?
