I wish they had waited for a completely new model to introduce their new front face design. Adding it during a mid-life cycle update feels like they're awkwardly tacking on or forcing an entirely new front end onto a car that wasn't originally designed with this in mind. Typical BMW these days. It's like they are blindly throwing darts & hoping something will stick but it never does.

It seems the whole World is coming back to common sense finally, by all means...

Amen to that!

That sure is going to significantly depreciate the resale value of the pre-facelift model. Drastic changes always do because, like you said, it feels like the manufacturer realized their mistake and is now trying to rectify it in a rather hasty manner. I wonder if the M5 is going to get a power increase in the facelift.

Fully agreed in general. However, the front of the 5er is so bad that I'll gladly take the compromise. The renders with NK front look soooo much better than the current actual front

No way. I don't remember the last M that got a power increase. The power increase will come in a CS version. You're going to have to pay.

Changing the design based on a completely different concept is turning out wrong and caricatural from a designer perspective.

BMW has very bad attempts, with literally glued on facias like the X7 LCI or G11/G12 (in both the profiles and rears look like from 2 gen. backwards).
Mercedes did that with the W212 facelift, trying make curves out of a straight lines and sharp edges. The GLK facelift is also a good example how not to redesign an existing concept inside and out.

I have to admit there is one guy that got a design overhaul right; Walter de’Silva, what he did with Volkswagen about 2010 was impressive as the redesigns were consequent and coherent until the last detail.

I wouldn’t expect that level of change on exisitng BMW’s, not with their design team.
I only hope their new NK will be as good as they want us to believe it.

Both the G11 and X7 have vastly superior looks compared to their pre facelift original design, personally
Most recent example is the 2er GC. While ugly as f#ck, it's 10 times better than before the facelift.

But it can be worse than before too of course. E46 coupe still hurts.

with literally glued on facias

Most definitely not literally.

Amen. I'd be happy with 50% as good as they say. Which would still be industry leading.

I can understand your point of view but still the edgy front of the G11 LCI just doesn’t work with the profile lines and the nearly circular knick IMO. If they would glue it on a F01 it would have the same effect.

The X7 is a Frankenstein nowadays following the G11 back, who knows what they meant with the front… but the eyesore is that outdated profile that resembles an X1 from early 2010 with the dropping character line, it was outdated already at launch.

Agree, the 2GC is the worst, but it was a crap even before the LCI.
Add the 1er, X2 and together with the Audi Q2 and GLA is a waste of plastic and metal.

Industry leading was 20 years ago, but they still can aspire to be the leader in their homeland in term of design if they get the NK right.

That has nothing to do with a facelift though.

A leader in their homeland should be easy lol
But seriously, yeah, the industry has become too mature for one company to dictate design.

I forgot that brand existed. Don't think I've heard a person on the street mention it for almost 15 years.

Really? Outlanders and L200s are everywhere round here.

Also, finally a Galant VR4 has showed up on autotrader (only a handful in the UK), and it's 7 grand, complete with shagged interior and rusted through bodywork.

Oh yeah. I forgot about the outlander EV. I see it every now and then.
