7 Series (G11/G12) [Spy Shots] BMW G11/G12 LCI in the works...

The G11/G12 is the sixth generation of the BMW 7 Series, produced from 2015 to 2022. Consists of the BMW G11 (short-wheelbase version) and BMW G12 (long-wheelbase version) luxury saloons, collectively referred to as the G11.
What a transformation externally. It's FINALLY got the presence it's needed without looking vulgar.

I love the new front end bestowed on the 7 and X7. It looks very avantgarde IMO. Furthermore, the fact that they share such a visually strong front end is going to add a lot of gravitas to the X7.

Shame about the interior. It's old hat and will be blown away by the next S.

Externally, the A8 is looking even sadder relative to the FL S and 7.

Ya, give that interior at least the new shifter and start/stop button.

I see BMW is on the light bar bandwagon

OT, but I've seen just two new A8's on the road in the few months it's been on sale. Droopy looking thing..

If you sign up to the Press Club you get the updates sometimes a week ahead of schedule. It's in order to meet the publishing deadline for print media. Online media of course has no deadlines.
Each release carries official embargo date. However like other manufacturers there are a lot of online sites who do not stick to embargos. The solution for this is digital watermarks.

And as I mentioned earlier you have employees who take photographs of the cars in secure compounds. When they are forbidden to do so as they are restricted by NDA.

Then you have the markets where previews are leaked because of that dealer-client relationship and then they bring the children who still take pictures when asked not to do so.
Please delete and handover your phone for security does not register with most people.

But when you are the worlds most admired and worshipped brand anything you have is headlines despite it being positive or negative.

Not their fault, they try hard to prevent those, but too many players involved, mistakes happen or simply some people just release them.

It just makes it harder for media that wants to keep the embargo in order to prepare quality articles, only to have to go live earlier with crappy small resolution images.

It is what it is and by now the 7 Series is well known.

Shit happens but it has become systematic with their cars, i have never seen anything like this.

I like it. It has come out to be very harmonious. And I am glad they have not touched the interior that much. It will remain good, old school BMW, which is very nice. Yet, I would have indeed loved to see the new gear shifter offered in Crafted Clarity spec only and some of the new instruments on the central tunnel.

And don’t talk me about the S-Class. Some are not fond of the tacky, gargantuan screens. At least in my time (and that of many others on this forum), THE 7 looks way better in most aspects. It is both classic and progressive at the same time. It has retained that true-to-the-brand look, that instantly recognizable BMW style that stood the test of time: linear in its evolution, yet also complex and revolutionary with every new generation. On the other side, at Stuttgart, I am not sure that the current S-Class has anything in common, style-wise, with its more elegant and classic ancestors, such as those below the W220 era.

I think it’s not a bad thing, the interior didn’t change. In this market there are quite some traditionalists who appreciate the classic design. Besides, they don’t have to get used to yet another big change, like we see in the exterior of the LCI 7er.
Biggest flaw in the interior, being the mounted navi screen imo, is left unchanged. I do realise, it was wishfull thinking, BMW would correct this: cost factor.
To sum things up, the 7er is still the only credible alternative. Personally, I like the G11 over the years more and more...

As far as I can remember, BMW rarely, if ever, did a significant change to the interior of their cars during their LCI phase, so it's not that surprising if it's still largely the same, aside from some new trims and minor changes.

Even the other most significant facelift that BMW had done in the past 15 years, which was the E65 in 2005, largely kept the same interior, apart from changing the steering wheel.

And all this talk of the LCI lagging behind the new crop of Beemers in interior style, like seriously this car is 3 to 4 years old already.

I do love this LCI. It's turned the 7er from an anonymous looking saloon to something quite imposing and majestic. Can't wait to see it in Geneva in March.

19th actually.
