Let's be honest...BMW top FLAGSHIP car has NEVER BEEN over the Mercedes S class ( sales number)

The 7 series has sold more than the S class in two or three occasions, beginning in 1995, the last years have been minimal differences 500 cars, 1000 cars, selling about 65,000 each of the brands, very even

We could have told you that the day the CS Concept was unveiled! :D

I am talking about a 9er. A lot reckon that for them to own a BMW in the most high end of the market they would want further exclusivity and individuality. I always thought they meant a special 7er "Oh you are being serious?

Its good to know the BMW brand can still maintain a cache in the most elite of segments.

What is this? Looks so...VW...

^lool you know that those doors open without any steps.. it has doors that stop at any given point instead of the 2 steps in normal doors.

Seems like the BMW is also a stepless door hinge..but it doesn't seem to stop..

Its supposed to stop like that :D

I feel like any luxury maker that operates in China has been asked for more expensive models with more individuality. Land Rover, MB, Audi, Jaguar, you name it.

Still no interior shots?

No because the first prototypes are using the F01 interior because the detailing is not important at this stage but it will come later.
Of course the actual interior is under development and evaluation behind the scenes by the relevant departments and it will be added to future prototypes later this year.

The interior is very much influenced by the Vision Future Luxury Concept and will be highly innovative for the luxury segment.

We will be introducing later this year symposiums with the media that will begin to reveal more about the next 7er including first examples of its lightweight construction.

The figures are highly significant.

I´m expecting an interior VERY similar to the one on the F15 X5. Same case than with the F01. If it ends up being more similar to the VFL then perfect.

The next generation 7er maybe evolutionary in design but there are many key introductions that will be revolutionary...

Lightweight engineering is the most crucial , because it is going to be the most dynamic 7er yet.
But we will also introduce the next generation of connectivity and iDrive.
Possibly the second most realistic feature of the Vision Future Luxury Concept.

^Evolution is good. Last time BMW had a revolution, we got this.

Which led to a revolution in the luxury segment in which key areas introduced on the E65 where refined and progressed and can still be found on today's luxury vehicles. Somebody had to be first , somebody had to push ahead and direct the luxury car into the age of technology and connectivity and to push forward design into the next decade especially in not only a segment but also a brand which was fast becoming identified as completely predictable.

Scott, you keep repeating that as if the fugly exterior was essential for the technological progress. It wasn't.

Well what was iDrive? The first driver interface that in first generation handled several features of the car. The first in a production luxury car.
We also introduced a Hydrogen model also and produced for a small customer base.

Technology and features can drive and influence design and at that time the exterior was very futuristic. But it did lay the foundation to introduce a new revolution for design @ BMW.
As of then no two BMWs were the same model in a different size.

Lest some forget , the 7ers storming performance in rising Asian markets influenced by the car's technologies contributed to the de-throning of Mercedes-Benz as the no 1 premium manufacturer due to the
Lack of foresight of Daimlers then king Joffrey.

The E65 is indeed still part of many design lectures (and NOT as a bad example ;)). Even though many people find it ugly, a lot of design experts (designers and design researchers) regard it as a milestone introducing 'architecture' to transportation design. Respective design cues are thought to be more 'durable' (but may at the same time need getting used to) and indeed the E65 is timeless. People who are non-experts have a hard time estimating how old this car is and usually rate it as a current model. No coincidence that the controversial trunk, for instance, can be seen in a toned down form in the S-class 221 and the A8 D4.

I tend to agree with you about how "timeless" the design looks. What you said about it being difficult to pinpoint the age of the car seems to have a lot of merit now that I look carefully. However, despite the ambiguous age of the car, these merits do not detach from the fact that it is inherently an ugly vehicle. It will be timeless and a classic for all the wrong reasons.
