E38 BMW 7 is the best looking BMW sedan of all time imo. The interior and the exterior are still very attractive. The newer BMW designs dont stand up to this classic beauty. It looked significantly better than its arch rival from 1990s, the W140 Mercedes. I think it was designed by my favorite car designer Mr. Paul Barcq.

Ditto! Mind you watch out for the F01, she's following in the E38's steps;)(y)

No, actually it wasn't designed by Bracq. He designed the E23 in 1974, while Boyke Boyer designed the E38 in 1991-1992. The E38 to date is also my favorite 7-Series generation, especially the LCI 2.0(2000-2001) as that's the first BMW my family owned.

Mind the proportions & dimensions ARE NOT set by designers but the engineers. Designers work within given parameters. They do not define the general proportions & the dimensions - sure they add or trim a millimeter or two, but that's it. And they work with engineers to provide better solutions - so the design can be smoother (especially eg. the aerodynamic solutions, ergonomic solutions etc). But in the end designers just design the dress for the body - not the body itself.

So, if the body is huge & massive, no dress can hide it.

The spy pictures of the F01 test mules were the reason for me to join this community (back then GermanCarForum) :)
How time flies :)

Well, it's good to have you on board!!

The next gen 7er is going to be an event to behold. It will be the first time the 7er will outdo the S class on all fronts :D ;)

LOL That has been told ever since, well like evey other has the "M3-Killer". But maybe this time they finally will. ;)

Exactly. The 7er has been getting closer with every generation. And my gut is telling me that the next gen 7er will be (for the first time) be absolutely on par with what MB has to offer in the segment.

Like you said, C63 and E63 are named M3 and M5 killers, maybe we can start calling the next 7er an S class killer.

^Go and read the article i posted in the S class thread, and ask yourself if BMW are willing to go to those lengths for a car that has never been their main focus? ;)

Nah, no need to do that. BMW will do this no doubt. They have more resources (do they?), more money (really?) and more people (yes?). They will succeed.
Every car BMW makes has the same focus. Be successful and be best in class. The W222 has some time, but it will be short lived.

^More money ? No
More resources ? No
More People? No again

BMW are a very smart company, they wont waste penny's where they can't see maximum return.

Hence my doubt:)

BMW M5/M6 are still doing well despite their fate (7 Series platform), but the M3/M4 has nothing fear, except maybe from the RS-C (which anyway will never be a Nr.1 choice). But yes 7 Series has been getting closer and closer. If it get everything right this time, it I'am 100% it will at least be on par. CF chassis is already a very significant advantage from a tech point of view. That is why I like the 4C, eventhough it may not be as perfect as a Cayman.

BMW is doing alot on costs reduction, but BMW has know-how. If they see they need to do better, they surely will. The new S Class will only force BMW to outdo everything. And with the Muslanne just out, and the Phantom so old, I can't imagine what that car is going to be. That is the natural cycle of competition, looks like it gets faster an tougher with each round.

All i will say is..don't be upset if its the same old BMW interior with some glitz and glamor added.. along with more or less a FL F01 body.

Time will tell..

I surely hope for a true successor to the E38

Is the tech that will astound in the 7er including passenger and driver head-up display and many features from the vision ConnectedDrive concept car , the Satellite aided transmission that has premiered on the Rolls-Royce Wraith is also going to be a feature of the new 7er. Aswell as another aided development that I won't talk about yet.
The 7er interior involves a good lot of minimalism , the free standing centre monitor visible on the prototype pictures looking into the car will be the largest found in a BMW yet.

Yeah of course it's good... hehe thanks, mate!
...though I might be going overboard with BMW this time around.
I have to settle down with a "crappy" Benz until the mighty CFRP 7-Series comes :)

Yep, that's precisely how it happens. That's why certain design patent applications list various people as no single person can fully design a production vehicle for public consumption by themselves. That's where we come in and make the designer's vision a reality. That's pretty much the difference between a design selection, where the work of the designer is chosen by management and the design freeze, where the production design is the result of us engineers.

Considering the guy who at customer clinic in June, either saw a prototype or a clay model with a detailed interior mockup, I believe this to be true. Despite being in development during a bad economic period, the W222 came out well and hopefully the G11 will as well as it should be revolutionary.
