7 Series [Spy shots] BMW 7er (G11) Spy Pics & Info

The BMW 7 Series is a full-size luxury sedan manufactured and marketed by the German automaker BMW since 1977. It is the successor to the BMW E3 "New Six" sedan. The 7 Series is BMW's flagship car and is only available in a sedan bodystyle (including long wheelbase and limousine models). It traditionally introduces technologies and exterior design themes before other models in BMW's lineup.

Did you notice the interesting shape of the sunroof (right in front of the fin)? It's visible in the rear pic and the video Scott has posted.....

The progress with other carmakers shows that we can expect free configurable displays in more and more cars. For example the Audi TT shows a such cockpit, the next VW Passat shall get a similar cluster too.
Can we expect this at the G 11 and following cars too? Did we got a hint with the Vision Future Luxury Concept?

This video shows future weight savings that will fall within other future BMW models starting with the 7er.
Its an exciting process and an ambitious but effective and intelligent way of cost-cutting but in a way that benefits rather than hinders.
Every aspect of the 7er was inspected and evaluated thoroughly so that areas of weight could be removed as well as adding lighter materials to offset traditional heavier materials.

It is going to be the most advanced car in the segment in terms of intelligent lightweight innovation.

Thanks for a great video Scott! Highly interesting and informative on how BMW evaluate all the components and use new ideas in material composition to form lighter and more durable components.

We are at a year to the first pictures . launch in June 2015.

So, is this info correct or not?

You also said many months ago that the 1er LCI is "the next thing to be launched by BMW", and that's nowhere to be seen. In fact, the latest info I've heard is that it's not due until March next year.

I actually waited for the LCI to be announced before ordering my M135i. I could have ordered it many months ago but waited thanks to your incorrect info.

Still in development.

Looks like they're fine tuning the rumored innovative 'Body B.A.G.' (Beneath Axle Gap) storage feature for the Russian and South American markets.

Mercedes is also rumored to be developing a similar storage feature for the facelift S-class. They will likely call it 'Magic Body Contortion'.

Audi is also planning such a feature for the new A8, but it will feature laser ultraviolet lighting, set to be a world first.

Jaguar are considering this feature, and are rumored to have trademarked the term 'The Den' for this.

The upcoming VW Phaeton may also have this option, with the company likely to refer to it as the 'Volks Bin'.

Lexus will begin developing a similar concept, and plan to name it the LFC (Lay Flat Compartment).

The upcoming new Rolls Royce Phantom will provide such a feature as an option, with a rumored leaked brochure showing this option referred to as 'Shadow Hearse'.

2015 BMW 7-Series LWB spied in the United States

Could draw inspiration from the Vision Future Luxury concept!

The 2015 / 2016 BMW 7-Series has been spied undergoing testing in the United States.

While we've already seen the model on numerous occasions, this particular prototype is a long-wheelbase variant that will likely adopt the familiar Li designation. Unfortunately, the car is heavily camouflaged so we can only make out minor details such as a dual exhaust system that is neatly integrated into the rear bumper.

Our spies were able to snap some pictures of the interior but the door panels were camouflaged and only reveal the existence of metallic door handles. That's not much to go on but the 7-Series could draw inspiration from the Vision Future Luxury concept and feature an advanced instrument cluster as well as a Touch Command Tablet for the rear seat entertainment system.

BMW has been coy on specifications but the model is slated to ride on an aluminum and carbon fiber chassis that could enable it weigh 450 lbs (204 kg) less than its predecessor.

Engine options remain a mystery but will likely include familiar six-, eight- and twelve-cylinder units. There have also been rumors about a plug-in hybrid variant and an entry-level model with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

IMO the 7 Series has always had one major problem, due to BMW's front end styling it can never look imposing, unlike the S Class, A8 & XJ. If I'm going to buy a luxury car I want it to look super expensive and imposing. This new one appears to be more of the same.

^ I'd rather have a 550i Touring, then ;)

Also, pretending an M550d to be an F11 M5 is something I cannot do. The differences are so massive I can not overcome them.

Audi has stolen this niche because BMW didn't (and doesn't) have anything. If BMW would have had an M5 Touring from the E34 on, there would be a fanbase.

How has Audi stolen it, the high performance estate is Audi's niche, they started it in the first instance with the C3 200 20V Avant Quattro way back in 1989.

True and the 30K Euro C Class has a far more imposing look than the 30K Euro 3'er whose look the 7er apes. If you really have money you buy something like a Phantom, Ghost or Mulsanne, then you don't have to worry about your super expensive motor looking like something used as a taxi.

I'd beg to differ that the 7er was never imposing from the front end. I'd say the 7er, from the E38 gen and onwards, had major presence up front.

^Is that the 2nd screen on the passenger side or is that merely testing paraphanelia?
