1 Series [Spy Shots] BMW 1-Series coupe

The BMW 1 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since 2004. Positioned as the entry-level model in BMW range of products, the first generation was produced in hatchback, coupé and convertible body styles.
this seems pretty pointless to me..this car
about as pointless as the B class but the b class looks good

so does this one..

so who cares..haha

Cause there is allready a 2 door 1 series wich is RWD..so what does this do better than the other one..
it just looks better..

a 2door hatch is not a coupe artist
granted that in todays world models spring very fast, but don't blame it on companies
blame it on a consumer driven society, go watch fight club and have a depressing idea!

ahh well its pretty pointless still.. the diffrence between this and the 2 door 1er to me is rear design and arangement..

but it will sell ..and i guess thats what matters..

Yes, it looks a bit redundant in Europe ...

But 1er coupe & cabrio are designed with especially US market in mind. Hatch shape is a no go in US - especially in premium market. Remember the fiasco with 3er Compact. Classic 2dr coupe is MUCH better choice for US market - cabrio even more. While in Europe 3dr & 5dr hatch variants will still be biggest sale generators within 1er family.

I can also see 2dr coupe as more macho car (for young men), while 3dr & 5dr hatch + cabrio will attract young women more. Globally applicable rule. ;)

:t-cheers:

Imma tell you why the compact didnt sell both the older and the latest versions was dead ugly..

i belive a 2 door 1er would sell in the us.. by the way will bmw release the 2 door 1er or will they only release this coupe in da US?

just so you know..that coupe is not macho.. seriously it looks very gurly to me.. i would rather drive the 1er coupe black with tinted windows.. and some larger rimms..
thats more macho to me than this little cute car..haha

Only 1er coupe & cabrio will be sold in US market. Hatch versions won't be sold there.

Be sure BMW did quite a lot marketing researches lately, and US customers definitely preferred classic coupe over hatch. It's not the matter of styling.

I assure you 1er coupe looks definitely more macho than the 3dr hatch. I can barely see male drivers in E87 1er. I'm sure E81 (3dr version) won't be much different. Wimmer's sister is quite a good proof. ;):D

But I'm sure 1er cabrio will be girl's choice #1. Especially in California. ;)

Mini cabrio when in high school, 1er cabrio for college, 3er cabrio when having a (housewife?) job & a wealthy husband replaces wealthy daddy. ;):D

Out of all of BMW's cars this makes most sense. The 3er is now in the slot of the original 5er, so a car to fill back the gap of the New Class/02 series and first 2 gen of 3ers was necesary.

True.

Mind that F01 7er will grow bigger, so will be the next F10 5er (especially in wheelbase) - and will get more coupeish shape, so the next F?? 3er will fit in current E60 5er place ... and then to fill the space there will be this & the next 1er - most possibly also in 4dr sedan variant, or just in as-seen-above 2dr variant. To be decided yet.

Everything makes sense. Especially for US market. And I guess also for the rest of the world.

Well, so, if we use your same measure of number of doors, I guess there is no point in having both sedans and touring versions of the same car - since they both have 4 doors.

not really i would not buy a the same car just cause its a touring version..and has some diffrent design cues..

is there a car with 4 doors with 2 versions one for touring and one sedan?

i cant think of any at the moment..

I have to say that it is quite unfortunate that Audi won't have any competition for the 1/2er coupe.

I assume 135i will be offered with M-package only - as Sport model only, while other will come with standard trim (and M-pack as an option). But I can be wrong though ...

:t-hands:

I think you're right. I read somewhere about the M bumper being standard on the 1er coupe, but I think that person was only talking about the 135i then...

Either way, I like both fronts. That standard non M package one looks good too.

I have to say that it is quite unfortunate that Audi won't have any competition for the 1/2er coupe.

Audi will be introducing an A3 Cabrio.

Furthermore Audi will be introducing the A1 that will compete mainly with the Mini but will still eat into 1er sales. There will be four body styles: three- and- five door hatchbacks, a two door coupe and an open top model. The three door A1 will be like a shooting brake.

Conflict of interests really between these two models but I can see the A3 becoming bigger as new A5 Cabrio will be replacing the current A4 Cabrio that will not be made anymore. A5 is a lot bigger so space creaed for new A3 Cabrio.

EnI or Scott...we read a while back about a 2.0turbo petrol 4-cyl engine. Is that still true? Will the new 1er Coupe have a 2.0T engine? It would be cool to revive the 2002turbo.

Hey Guys,

This might be bad news for us in Europe...
I went last week to the official unveiling of the 3doors sporthatch 1 series (nicely done little car imo) and asked to the saleslady (very nicely done as well, I'll have to congrat her parents) about the 1er coupe.

What she said was this : BMW is likely to unleach the cabrio in march 2008 and the coupe in september 2008 !!!!

Given the pictures we've seen and all the intel provided by Scott & Eni it doesn't seem likely, but she was adamant about this.

What do you guys think? Has my judgment been impaired by this lovely saleslady ?

Nick
