Looks like proportion is off due to the angle the photograph was taken that it distorts the car. The side profile shot shows its classic 3er stubby rear with minimal overhang.

Side profile is clearly wrong. The front and rear are probably not that accurate either, but serve as a good reference of what to expect IMO. That rear end in particular is quite sexy.

It's strange, but this render looks more like a heavy facelift of the G20, than a truel NKL design.

Yes, mostly because they based it on the current M3’s body and still use the old wheels etc.

I hope all these renders got the upper rear fascia wrong, because these taillamps simply sitting across that flat trunklid area make it look really cheap, awkward and (the bad side of) Asian -- compared to the outgoing G20 which still looks super fresh, muscular, cohesive and unmistakably BMW to this day.

Interesting. I think it still looks unmistakably BMW, just with more minimal design.
