We have seen folding display before just not for the driver. It is more of a gimmick IMO.
Hmm, I'm not so sure that it's merely a gimmick - I can see the usefulness of this on a track when you require less overall instrumentation info and more focused performance info. Of course, this assumes that the owner will be using the car on a circuit occasionally. If not then yes, it is rather superfluous.

Just how friggin cool is that, ladies and gents ? Not sure if it is necessary or not (though @martinbo 's explanation about the visual distraction makes sense); but sometimes, "just because it's cool and no one has tried it before" is a good enough reason, don't you think?

Looks like the real deal to me

Here Is The McLaren 720S Way Before You're Supposed To See It

We won’t see the all-new McLaren 720S until sometime next week at the Geneva Motor Show, but thanks to someone at Bloomberg apparently f#cking up their embargo, here’s a good photo of the new supercar a little early. It looks fantastic.

For now, this is the only known public photo of the new 720S, and unfortunately it doesn’t show us a whole lot—we can’t see the nose, a clear view of the rear end or the inside.

But when we compare it to a similar angle on the car it replaces, the 650S, we can see it looks a lot more aggressive. I have no doubt the rest of the car will follow suit.

All aside, as someone who has hitherto not been a big fan of McLaren, this, IMO, is by far the most beautiful car they have ever made...Absolutely positively GORGEOUS!

Take a careful look at the left door. Now that's clever aerodynamics.

The hollow door? Yeah....If Lambo has aero trickery, so does this car, which is why I'd like to see this one go up against the 488 or the Performante head to head

Not sure I like Ferrari doors.
Should have stuck to their signature butterfly (dihedral)doors.

Is the hole in front of the rear wheel for draining rain-water from the aero-gap in the door?
I would say no, because the bottom of the door looks solid at the rear. That said, I don't know its purpose.
