SPY PHOTOS: VW Passat R36
Shot at Nürburgring
Volkswagen is currently testing at Nürburgring the new sporty Passat version R36. The photos are showing two prototypes of both sedan and wagon.

The car has larger air intakes in the front end, large alloy wheels (still painted black), and the rear end is featuring a small spoiler and two exhaust pipes.

Power for this R36 comes from a V6 280 HP engine.

I hope the Passat will be a lot better, cause in the Golf R32 case being slower than the predecesor is a big embarassement.

Nice to see VW coming up exciting products like this. I think the Passats are really good looking, only I did not care too much about the black rims in these pictures.

This car is quite exciting, can't wait to see it's debut and read up on all the specs. Should be one fun to driver Vee Dub, hopefully just as good or better than the MKV GTI.

Agreed. I think they would do it anyway... It doesn't really make sense to have the sporty Passat having the same output as the 3.6L Passat.

Not from Sport Auto who found it slow, as did AutoZeitung. It was found slower than its predecesor, and even the GTI if I'm not mistaken.

I'm sorry, but regardless from wich magazine, if they've really said so about R32 then for me it's a pure

Slower than GTI??? Please, give me a break, The most hardcore Golf ever, with very strong engine, great AWD and handling... Yeah right!

Sport Auto got similar results on the Nurburgring I belive, 0 to 200 was very disapointing.

That's would have been my first impression, but Sport Auto was first witch I've read, now this only confirms it.

There was Sport Auto R32 tread here somewere. I'll try to find it.

Yep, 12 seconds slower than the Golf IV R32 on the SportAuto Nring.

Weight, added among others by the AWD.
This might help in some cases/tracks but not on others.
Also the DSG is only a usefull on upshifts, but it's just as slow as a regular manual on downshifts.

Yes, i know that car weights more with AWD, but this is the car with better suspension, stronger engine, better gearbox (than the one in R32 IV) and it's still 12 secs slower?!?
