3 Series (E90) Spy photos: E92 Coupe / E93 Convertible Facelift

The BMW E90 is the fifth generation of the BMW 3 Series range. Body styles: E90 (saloon), E91 (estate/touring), E92 (coupé) and E93 (convertible). Predecessor: BMW E46. Successors: F30/F31 3 Series, and F32/F33 4 Series. Production: 2004-2013.
It looks great, its not overstylized as I believe the sedan facelift was (too much going on in too little space). This car takes the hood lines from the Gran Turismo and adds a little kink to the headlamp to give it a little bit of 6 series look and I think it pulls the combination off perfectly!

its the new EU regulations. Lexus, Mercedes, Audi and BMW are already affected by these new regulations and nothing to do about it. Sorry.

Ohh well!

I'm sure the mounting space is the same shape as the old one, can easily transfer the old mirrors onto the new:cool::cool:

It was and will be a beautiful car. Facelift is a THE biggest marketing campaign by ANY car manufacturer to keep production going for the last months before the all new one arrives - GIMIC!:D

I dont think its always a gimic (altho it can be). Sometimes it's an opportunity for the manufacturer to revise a certain design element that they didn't get right the first time or hasn't been well received by the public. The E90 sedan's rear lights for example wasn't ever well liked and the facelifted version seems to be more acceptable.

I've already seen facelifted 3-series on the streets with the old sidemirrors. :usa7uh:

larger sidemirrors = more wind noise.

Well which one is more important, wind noise or safety?

I understand your point, but those regulations are put into place for safety. Yes, the previous mirrors might have been adequate then again larger mirror provide better visuals.

I have no problem with current sidemirrors on my 1-series and my fathers 3-series. Our sidemirrors are just fine.

Lol Just_me, I am not saying anything is wrong with them. I am just saying that there decision to make them larger will probably be helpful in seeing more then the current mirrors.

Also coolraoul might be right about cameras replacing the mirrors in the future. Infiniti already has a camera that is suppose to view all around the car. I think it's already on the EX model, if not it is coming.

Not like you would find on an Audi or Merc, but from what I understand these tubes are LED.:D

^^ CELIS LEDs are they called. But a unit is never made only out of them, usually only the red bits are CELIS while the indicators are regular LEDs. Sometimes, the brake lights aren't CELIS either.

See, this is the F01 BMW 7er.

Here, you see the brake lights, and indicators are lit: regular LEDs.

And here, the CELIS LEDs are lit (viewed from the side, but of course as you know the CELIS LED tubes are running through the entire unit): they are only the red lights.

It is the very same with the FL e90: CELIS, + LEDs, in the same unit.

Great post! Only one thing I want to add: The brake lights in the E90 LCI are still regular bulps (which is a shame, but understandable). I do hope for full LED in the E92 facelift. It's possible; the coupé is more exclusive than the sedan and it already had LED lights when the E90 pre-facelift hadn't...

Here's some more detail from someone that works on the 3-series LCI / facelift production:

E92/E93 LCI production will start in March 2010.

Deep Blue Sea and Vermillion red are new colours.
Leather "Oyster" will be available as well.
Some new wheel designs.

Are we sure the rear lights shape is not changing? It is L-Shapish, but not in the way BMW is doing now it´s L-Shape, the small piece of the rear cluster on the boot lid is in the upper part in the current car, and I wouldn´t be surprised if that piece was lower now, creating a shape more like the E90 LCI.

What do you think?.

I think the shape of the backlights is going to stay the same. The only thing that will change is the lighting tech and graphics.
Their shape is universally praised, and a big part of the identity of the coupé.
Besides, it's clearly visible in the spy-shots that they are going to stay the same. What we see is what we get, just like the third window in the E-class coupé.
