Vs Sportauto: BMW 335i vs Audi S4 (W211 E63 AMG vs RS6)

When did BMW fans become more interested in straight line acceleration than lap times? Or did you "miss" the lap times?

Lap times
1:18.0 / 1:18.82

Haha, no I didnt missed, I knew you were bringing it up but this thread was clearly arguments about S4 and a 335i with powerkit ;) S4 is quicker around a track that we agreed long ago but the question is how quicker 335i would be with Power kit. Now we have another direct comparison to compare and here 335i finished ahead, both to 100 and 200 km/h.
Regarding the laptimes the writer complained that the 335i wasn't equipped with sportchassi since he reckon it would improve the laptime. Now he thought the car behaved nervous on the track.

...and once more, the the sensation of driving is far more important than the laptime. At least, as in this case, when the cars are equally fast.

New BMW 335is M-Sport/Performance

We ran out of steam a while ago discussing the merits of comparing the S4 with the untested 335i Performance version. Well now we have some interesting results coming in.

First, it appears that BMW (at least in the USA) is about to release a 335is to compete with the S4. A Sachenring track time has been released - see fastestlaps.com - of 1.44.28, a vast improvement over the other 335i lap times, but still not up to par with the S4 Avant that has posted a time of 1.43.83. The sedan version of the S4, which I expect is a tad quicker, has not yet been tested on this track.

Second, we have some results posted by Autobild in its comparison of the TTRS, 335i Performance and ors - no S4? Go figure. 0-100 (5.2) and 0-400 (13.56) are now much closer to the S4 but still not quite there. The track time above, however, suggests the S4 is the better handling/power combination. The LSD appears to be the major difference now.

What is strange is that the 335is M Sport and Performance times are exactly the same. Same car and entry?

Only other interesting issue is the cost of the new Performance and iS and how they compare with the S4. Anybody know?

I also noticed that fastestlaps.com has the same lap time for 335is and the 335 sedan with performance package in the autobild comparison. My theory is, the time is actually for 335 sedan with PP (as the scans been posted here) and some one wrongly added the same as time for 335is in fastestlaps.com. And I am assuming this cause, I never saw any scans of the 335is being tested on that track and 335is is not available in Europe so I doubt it is going to be tested in a European track. BTW, do you/anyone know if the lap time for the S4 was with DCT or manual? Funny thing is that time is even faster than C63 Touring with performance package.

Regrettably, I don't know. I am not surprised that the S4 track time is faster than the C63 Performance Package - probably a different story over a straight line 400m or even to 100 kph- but handling is still not a great Merc strength. I still remember either a Firth Gear or Top Gear track test of the C63 - the handling was very medoicre - and put me off the C63 even though I admired it very much.

In recent Australian tests around a 2km circuit the S4 posted exactly the same lap time as the new E63 sedan.

I had another look at the Autobilt article re the 335i Performance - is it correct that the full Perfotmance package is 18,500 Euro? How does that compare with the S4 with LSD in Europe? My guess is that the Bimmer is more expensive and still not quite as fast.
