Giulia Speculative - Alfa Romeo Giulia (159 replacement)

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is a compact executive car produced by Alfa Romeo. Known internally as the Type 952, it was unveiled in June 2015, with market launch scheduled for February 2016, and it is the first saloon offered by Alfa Romeo after the production of the 159 ended in 2011.
New Alfa Romeo Sedan Arriving in US in Q1 2016, Tipped to Outperform German Rivals

The widely anticipated Alfa Romeo rear-wheel drive sedan will arrive in the United States in the first quarter of 2016, Alfa Romeo US boss said at the New York Auto Show.
Alfa sedan’s powertrains or equipment, but said its performance would exceed segment rivals such as the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

“I’m confident that it’s going to blow your Italian socks off when you look at the specifications associated with this vehicle,” Bigland was quoted as saying by Autonews Europe.

Bigland hinted that after the launch of regular sedan versions, Alfa Romeo will also offer a high-performance model. “I think with the D-sedan, you can expect performance at or above the Porsche, BMW and Mercedes for like-to-like classes. With our base, our mid and our high, look for them to be a little bit of a notch above based on what they have in the market right now,” Bigland said.

Funny thing he mentioned Porsche, because the German automaker currently doesn’t offer a sedan below the Panamera. Bigland also said that a D-segment SUV would launch in fourth quarter 2016 or possibly in early 2017, and would be a rival for the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Porsche Macan.

JUST RELEASE THE DARN THING!!!!!

Same here.

The new Giulia is possibly the most important recent Alfa. If it's good enough, then I think this will be the start of a new era for Alfa Romeo. If it ends up crap, Alfa will slowly follow Lancia to wherever car brands go when they die.

These just popped up. Not sure how official they are, but still interesting nonetheless.

Looks promising, but I am not that crazy about the headlights..maybe in person I will hope to feel differently.

They need to hit this out of the park. I want to look at it and be love at first sight and make me forget that a 3er exists. We are now less than a month away...

And the front reminds me of the 156, somehow. Nice overall, but the 159 frontal view is IMO, the best resolved Alfa design in the last 30 years or more. Giugiaro is a genius.

For the front, you are absolutely correct, IMO...159 > 156. However, the 156GTA will always have a special place in my heart. And you are spot-on about Giugiaro...Giorgetto was such a great designer, as was his son.

The above-posted sketches, do we know if they are based on the sketcher having actually seen it or his own flight of fancy? I quite like how thin the C-pillar is whereas so many are becoming much thicker.

Ehh, I'm more of a fan of the Brera. But yeah I wish they had continued with that look rather than moving on.

I do not know. They look plausible, but thats the most I have to go on. Until I (or someone else) finds out more about them, we should treat them as a flight of (realistic) fancy.

Interesting article on AUTO (It) just bought today.
The name is still not decided. Probably not Giulia. The car will be introduced on the market on 2016- But on 24 June (- 18 days) they will show her officially at EXPO international exhibition of Milan. On that date we will see the GTA version too. The engine will be a 3lt V6 biturbo, rated at about 500 hp. developed with Ferrari. The official target is the Bmw M3/M4 in their plans.Getrag or ZF 6 manual gear and rear traction only. The roof will be in carbon and body will be as light as possible, tks to the large use of aluminum .They want to be lighter than the M3, the article says. They will introduce even a torque vectoring system inspired to the one adopted by Porsche.Brembo will deliver the ceramic optional brake system for the GTA. Production of the new car will start in December. Confirmed for 2016 even the Wagon and the Suv-

If true for the GTA, I am surprised that a manual is the only transmission to be offered.

I really hope it doesn't look like that last rendering.

Can someone explain Alfas performance trims to me? I thought the Quadrifoglio Verde cars were supposed to be the fastest not the GTA? Or is the GTA nameplate more analogous to the CSL nameplate from BMW?

Yeah, it's confusing to me as well, especially as I read a couple days ago that "QV" is top-end that's supposed to compete with AMG and BMW M cars, and "Veloce" is supposed to compete with the mid-level types like AMG Sport and M Performance. Where would the GTA moniker fit in then?

I have no doubt it will be a gorgeous and beautiful car but they need to prove that reliability is at the top end. I know someone who bought a Guiletta instead of a 1er to be different but has had minor but costly issues.
Now he is buying the 1er which he dismissed because he did not like the pre-LCi.

But I am still intrigued to see this car.
