More individuality

Don't be afraid, this Frankensteinian look on the Mercedes S Class is purely for testing purposes. But testing for what? We reckon that Daimler AG is running preliminary tests on the streets of Stuttgart for a new Maybach.
Maybach has never performed as well as Daimler had hoped, selling just 32 vehicles in Germany in 2006, but the German manufacturer has not given up hope on the ultra-luxury brand just yet.

Recently a special, officially one-off but rumoured to be a limited edition, Landaulet version of the Maybach 57 was shown at the Middle East Motor Show in Dubai. And only last week Brabus catapulted the 57 around Nardo to set the ultra-luxury class speed record at 330,6 km/h.

The current line-up of Maybach are all based on the Mercedes S Class, but with this new addition Maybach is set to receive a more individual design to distinguish itself more from th 'regular' luxury of the Mercedes brand.
The ultra-luxury market has been flailing (direct competitors like the VW Phaeton and Rolls-Royce Phantom are no big sellers either) except for the Bentley GT and Flying Spur have booked success. And it is those customers that Maybach, just like Rolls-Royce, will be targeting with a new model.

Well firstly i didn expect mb to make another maybach ..so if they are well they have balls because the money they going to spend on testing and building this car is plenty and seeing as the current one is a failure ...

if they are planning the next maybach it should not look anything near the current maybach or that chop above because it still has simalaraties to the s class ans that in my opinion is the main problem ..also the inteiror must be totally different from the s class especilaly the fron which in the current maybach has many simalarities to the s...

on the other the hand maybe they not testing the maybach maybe its a pullman s class which it looks like ...so lets see

well that chopp is alot better than whats on sale today
but not good enough .. it must totally kick ass

I like the grille... its dominant unlike the current verision.... anythings better then the current headlights aswell... other then that it reminds me of a Mazda 6 (the new one) so yes definetly noy up to stratch yet....

^^ I wasn't being too serious BMW_Owner, I don't think it is really horrible. ;)

However, I am quite astounded that The Artist likes it ....and yet he hates this: :eusa_thin :t-hands:

....I really wonder about you sometimes Kashef :D

lol i dont like it..i said its better than whats on sale today..cuase the current MM is damn ugly..

but the car you posted above.. i dont see the connection..
its a freakin SIN.. i hate that bentley..

oh god not again. PLEASE!!! MB, just please don't make the new Maybach a rip-off of the S-class, again. I hope they go in a direction of the Exelero and not a re-hash of the current S-class design.

OK Artist ;)

This chop has the ODC's rear wheel arch molding (whatever it's called) ....this whole thing makes me wonder if Daimler are considering making the ODC a Maybach -- I honestly think that would be a wise move if there is to be any real future for the Maybach brand -- it would definitely be something bold and unique that would give Bentley and Rolls a serious fight.

Hmmmm, interesting comment Ramen, considering many commentators noted that the W221 looks a little bit like a small Maybach 57.

Obviously the person who did this chop thinks that rear wheel arch is going to be a design feature on an upcomming model.

Yes the new CLK will have it too, and it will become a distinctive styling cue of the upcoming MB models (at least from what I read). MB, not MM...

The OCD would be a good MM, if they decide to give MM another chance it would be stupid to brand it MB! And the Maybach was a Benz concept-car, so...

I just hope this new Maybach won't look anything like a Benz...

Can't stand that chop, its awful in every way except for the grille. I don't think we're looking at a new Maybach. Is there a Pullman version of the W221 yet? WCF fans can never get this right, they always say the Bentley Continental Flying Spur sells, but the Phantom doesn't. Do they not realize that the Phantom costs nearly double the price of a Flying Brick? Using the big VW is a poor example too because it is the exception to the rule. The main cars in that segment sell very well, the S, 7 and A8. The giant VeeDub has nothing to do with a Phantom or Maybach, so why mention it? The Phantom does sell well for its intended market segment, i.e. the only other competitor being the Maybach which it outsells easily.

Maybach needs to hire one of the Italian design houses or either hire Brunno Sacco back to do the design. It can't look like another Lincoln-Benz.

Well, I am assuming that this chop is a new model Maybach, not a replacement for the 57/62, but rather a smaller car to compete with the spectacular* Flying Spur.

*:D ;)

No please ...lets keep the Italians out of this, their track record with non-Italian luxury brands is not outstanding. :D

The Maybach 57/62 concept was conceived by DCX's Tokyo Studio ......I want a Maybach to be as German as ree and Christian Wimmer.

I really hope this time Maybach (Mk2) design will differ more from the MB design.

An original Maybach design is needed.

Btw, that chop looks more like 2012 Ssangyong Chairman ... :t-crazy2:

Honestly, I don't see the similarity with the W221 and the 57. The 57 is still the same re-hash of the W220 in my eyes. :t-cheers:

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
