Could this be the ultimate R8? When our spy photographer spotted this Audi supercar filling up at a petrol station just outside the Nürburgring test track in Germany, he initially didn’t think much of it.
But then, closer inspection revealed some remarkable details which indicate it might be a new RS model – to sit above the mighty 552bhp 5.2-litre V10-engined R8 GT.

If it makes it to production I doubt it will sit above the GT as it's a very focused track type version of the R8, more a case that it will sit along side the GT as the 997tt sits along side the GT3.

The whole front grill seems blocked vs regular R8 v10, where the bottom half is open and houses radiator/cooler of some kind. Also the new exhausts looks fake, so it could be a production version of the electric version, but then again, it is in a gas station, so I am probably wrong.

So, instead of trying to camouflage the car they actually make it stand out? Clever.

According to Swedish AMS, the surprise piece at Paris will be an Ur-Quattro hommage.

Fantastic. Will be in Paris to see it, though I doubt it will be as easy on the eyes as the red E-Tron which was last years daunting Audi.

One of the easiest mistakes to make in the spy photo industry is to mis-identify test prototypes, especially those lurking in and around the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife on test days.
The UK's leading weekly print magazine AutoExpress by Dennis Publishing and their corresponding web site are no exception as these photos of an Audi R8 thought to be a new RS model are shot down by Audi fans.

Details such as a new front splitter, side skirts, larger side air intakes from the R8 LMS racing car and Audi motorsport-style body graphics led AutoExpress to call it the R8 GT RS. Certainly an obvious yet excellent name for the potential range topping R8 model to slot above the 552bhp 5.2-litre V10-engined R8 GT, however, Audi forum site Fourtitude has identified it as something else.

Recalling a visit they made to MTM headquarters last year, the Audi tuner was starting a conversion which attempted to squeeze a 5.0-liter V10 biturbo engine from the RS6 into R8. A year on, apparently MTM was successful and the vehicle you see here is that final product. Through contacts close to MTM, the project has since been confirmed to Fourtitude.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
