This popped into my inbox this evening , just as I was leaving to go to the shoot.
Rumour Control , here are the facts...


Lets get to the updates, here and Now!!!!!

BMW are currently working on a third model range for Rolls-Royce.

Yes we are investigating two concepts for Rolls-Royce.
One is a probable 4dr Coupe , other is a Roadster , both will sit above the Ghost and be based on the Ghost , the Roadster could be shared with the next 6er Coupe and Cabrio.
201 EX a Drophead for the Ghost will be seen next year at Paris.

My sources have done some digging and thus far have found out that Rolls-Royce are planning a sportscar. This model will make use of a Phantom Drophead Coupes chassis .

No Sports car it does not fit within the brand.

This 2 seat sportscar will make use of 1 of 2 engines the first choice is likely the twin-turbo 6.6 liter V-12 from the Ghost, and the second engine is the much rumored 9.0 liter V-16 that will produce 700 BHP.

The V12 seen in the Ghost will be seen in other variants as well as the future production BMW CS Concept car and will also be the basis for the future Phantom .
A V16 in this day and era is insane and does not fit within the plans for Rolls-Royce and BMW especially in light of future emissions.
Currently BMW have integrated a team to work on sustainable developments for Rolls-Royce. A hybrid Ghost using the drivetrain from the Active hybrid 7 is undergoing testing within BMW's private testing grounds.

The body of this sportscar will be made of aluminum and RTM fiber glass. The plan is to have this model be a 2 seat roadster, possibly with a folding metal roof. The transmision of choice is likely a new duel-clutch 8 speed transmision driving the rear wheels. Expect styling to follow some cues form the Phantom and Ghost. My sources suggest the name could be the Wraith and this model would be directly linked to the rumored Salt flat racer Rolls-Royce has started working on.

We have been here before regarding the Salt Flat Racer it is not happening. Wraith is a probable title for the Coupe.

Aren't those quotes from the notorious MCLAREN P_10 from CSS? According to this person almost every imaginable carmaker is planning hypercars with 700-1200 hp output.

Last time I checked this person was wrong about the engine for the McLaren MP4-12C on the day(!!!) of the actual press release. Unsurprisingly MCLAREN P_10 edited the post after the press release.

No no no BMW Power. It doesn't work like that. Only when we are worthy do we get to find out things we want to know. In the meantime you must be grateful for any small bits of info we receive.

The only thing we get is a sort of competition package for the e92 M3 is my guess.

They did that also for the e46 M3.

They rather make a competition package then put a new car in the line up like a CSL. It wil only put the total of co2 in the lineup up and the this car is no hot seller. So don t count on an extra model in M3 lineup.

There has been a lot of controversy regarding the MINI Crossover.
With some reports stating that the car will be cancelled or BMW have gotten cold feet regarding the Concept.

Far from it. Shooting begins today in Vienna , Austria in time for a launch at the Geneva Auto show in March , deliveries will begin in September 2010.
The delay is primarily the switch over for the X3 to South Carolina.
The recent European introduction of the X3 xDrive18d has proved to be immensely popular especially when Germany were under the car scrappage initiative. With customers now moving towards the new BMW X1 , X3 production is slowing down and over in the USA the training for first pre-production prototypes should be seen very shortly around the plant.

Shooting begins in Vienna before moving to the Austrian Alps and other locations , continents. That represent the flexibility and urbanism of the new MINI Crossover. The MINI Crossover is shorter than the new BMW X1.

First pictures will be seen after the Detroit Auto show and a web teaser and social network site for the MINI Crossover begins in mid-late December.

It's an M1. But to be clear it is the original M1. This is in aid of a BMWwebTV special which is upcoming soon.

It is not , repeat not a prelude to a supercar or R8 rival. More to do with the way BMW use camouflage to disguise their prototypes.
