Looking at XM and iX I am actually seeing old ideas revived with a current slant.
The X6 evolved from its high riding coupe which was recently unearthed. To a lower roofed X5 introduced on the X2. The ideas from this inception resonate with XM.

As does the iX which gestation begins from the conception of the RFK/V5 before it evolved into the 5er GT.

BMW may have pioneered the idea, but they sure as hell dragged their feet getting it to the market. And people complained when the LFA and NSX took forever to get to the market.

If the entire model range is indeed going to be labeled XM instead of X8, the lower-end 'M Performance' version has to be named 'XM 45e' or else there is one M too many in the name. Still an inconsistent range nomenclature no matter what.

Hopefully, however the top BMWi X model too ended up being named... iX instead of iX8, so I wouldn't be shocked if this here were named XM, as the iX's counterpart at the opposite end of the spectrum.

No. The final name is XM. Just like in the case of another halo model - the iX. The same nomenclature will be applied for a possible, forthcoming flagship supercar - the iM.

No digits, just plain letters for the official title.

In the case of the XM, we'll have an M Performance 45e hybrid, a full-bred XM with over 600 hp and a range-topping XM Competition surpassing the 700 hp barrier.

The grill looks good in principle, after the internal illuminated grills, maybe these (illuminated edges seems?) Is a new trend.
They look very M3 / M4 like well marked deep front turbines
