Why didn't I read this sooner? Wow, nice read bro tnx!
He he ....a little bit of sarcasm there.

S class interior best in the world? take a look inside a Pagani Huayra, Lamborghini Aventador, Rolls-Royce Phantom, or Bugatti Veyron ....the S class is very good but it feels very mainstream when compared with those interiors.

Btw, my favourite detail of the Dawn's interior (like the Wraith's) is the doors. The beautifully crafted and perfectly proportioned elements are deceptively complex. The impression is harmonious, luxurious, and very modern.

That armrest unit almost seems to be floating. Amazing.
yeah, it's really beautifully done.

The one thing that does bug me about the Ghost/Wraith/Dawn is the black plastic strip in the middle of the dash below the air vents .....I can't understand why they didn't continue with the wood on that part. (See Scott's reply below)

It has bugged me for years now ..lol

In the UK:
S63 AMG retails at £125,605
S65 AMG retails at £183,075

And the Wraith at ~£240,000 (Rolls would never be so gauche as to state prices on their website, but Autocar's 2013 review of the Wraith states £232K.

A similar price differential can be applied to the convertibles.

The Mercedes is sex on wheels, but the Rolls-Royce has suicide doors, so I would take the RR

There is actually no comparison.
Both will do their job well but the Rolls-Royce exudes a class and status the S-Klasse will never reach. As does the Mercedes against the Rolls-Royce in terms of power and performance. But neither would be concerned The S-Klasse is for a totally different client.
Mark as Old if you wish but you know that it is true.

The S Class reached that level decades ago, they called it the Großer

Who exactly do you think designed and engineered the Dawn? It's full to brimming with superior technology and German engineering with a superlative British designed and crafted interior.

We need more German engineered british cars for sure

This comparison is valid since almost 50% of the people here would take the S-class cabriolet over the RR.
I understand that they are not exactly in the same price bracket... but still, those are two new luxurious 4 seater cabriolets that are an option to the wealthy looking for such a car.
Obviously, some people may prefer the Benz even though they can afford the RR, because the S-cabriolet still offers so much on its own.
BMW Group doesn't offer a direct competitor to the S-cabriolet. IMO, the 6er is not luxurious enough, and the Dawn is the closest competitor.
Your conclusion is based on MB fanboys who would like the S-Convertible to be a competitor to the RR Dawn. There is really nothing "valid" about it.

yeah, it's really beautifully done.

Actually the strip is actually stretched and cut leather to match the other areas of leather such as the door rests and arm rests in the centre tunnel.

very well said, the S is a completely superior car technically, of course design is a very personal topic, however even despite this been said, the interior of the S is just mind blowing, IMO it is undoubtedly the best interior in the world, it is got everything, luxury, modernity, sportiness, emotion, tradition, you name it, it's got it.

you can see that it is the very definition of the future luxury interior, it is truly a work of beauty, the RR on the other hand is just ambiguous pieces of wood put together in the most unsubtle manner.

You sure hurted some feelings with that one :D

It is a comparison between luxury and ultra luxury. So no comparison. People that can buy the Royce will never compare these cars in terms of either/or. The RR is completely in a different leage.

In this segment personal attention in the buying process is very important. It is not just about the product.

It's a comparison between luxury and bespoke luxury, I would say. I may be wrong tho, that's just the way I see it

I sat in a Ghost not long ago and I didn't even notice it was leather.

I guess this aversion to plastic is a bit silly anyway but I like that it is a natural material rather than plastic. I thought maybe Rolls-Royce might make this part wood when they updated the interior.

Well the 600 wasn't technically an S class,

But this was:

The Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 was the ultimate high-performance luxury car in the world before the Bentley Mulsanne Turbo in 1982.

We all know the 600 is an S Class deep in it's heart :D

And the MacDaddy is the V16 DHC. I've been told Atkinson owns this car but I can't find any confirmation of this.

I'm pretty sure they actually built one for Atkinson. *He owned/owns one for sure. There are only like 3 of those [engines] in the world. It was featured in Top Gear, I'll search it for you and post the link here

EDIT: Couldn't find anything, except *Atkinson owned a 4 door Phantom, which had over 80,000 miles from his driving.

He loved the car so much he requested a Phantom for Johnny English 2. In his own words, "It truly is the Rolls-Royce of cars" :happy001:

I wouldn't be surprised to know Atkinson actually kept the car though.

How is this poll a draw? MB fans will surely vote for the S-Coupe but shouldn´t BMW fans do the same? With all the criticism towards the S-Class for looking like your grandpa´s living room, the RR should be a no choice for them as well.

My vote for the S. Not a fan of huge cabrios but at least the MB still looks like a car.

@SKY

I thought that BMW fans like sporty luxury, not luxury barge (what Rolls Royce is).

RR and MB cannot be compared at all. Not liking MB doesn't mean you don't have to like RR either.

So yes, this poll is insane and all the people who voted for that run off the mill production vehicle make me laugh in disbelief. I didn't vote because comparing these two is madness.

Not a fan of huge cabrios but at least the MB still looks like a car.

If there's on that looks like a car it's the Dawn. It's a car like a child would draw it. The S cabrio in comparison looks like a quick fashion statement, that will be obsolete in a couple of years.
