2 Series [Road test] BMW 2-series

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.
First test by AutoZeitung: BMW M235i Automatic

Auto Motor und Sport:
2 points difference between the 1st (S3) and the 2nd place (M235i). Audi scored better at the fuel consumption, lol.

Wohoo!! Matching CLA45 in acceleration, slalom course and braking. Imagine a M2 version.. Sometimes I regret my decision to get a ST when I see M235i :D I really love the car.

Wait...S3 wins over M235i?? Because of fuel consumption?

I am about to not take AMS serious anymore. Bunch of metrosexuals over there.
No car in this class wins over M235i. Period.

About to? They lost their credibility a long time ago! The same count's for Autozeitung and Autobild. I read such a lot of nonsense in these magazines. Remember AMS had the "Technical appendix" last year with Audi's "Vorsprung durch Technik" in which they made us believe Audi was the leading company in CRP, fuel economics etc.? It had nothing to do with journalism. It was propaganda!

No, their ranking fails, because it is based on the scored points of each category.

In other magazines -like AutoBild Sportscars- the M235i would won, because they rate the cars subjectively:
  • Straightline performance
  • Cornering abilities
  • Everyday usability
  • Power-to-price ratio
  • Emotions

6 if you disregard price and by 8 if karosserie means comfort or practicality?

The 2er however certainly looks to be the real deal. To hold its own against a Cayman S is extremely impressive. The M2 should be a real beast!

Equal to the Porsche, 20k less expensive and much more practical.

THIS is how I want to see my Bimmers. Great to see they still got it! At least one car to be proud of.

Porsche scored 20/20 points in steering and BMW 18/20 points. 18 of 20 must be above average so BMW must have done something right.

More practical and less expensive but not equal my friend! Lets leave that compliment at the ready for the M2. This is how I used to feel about bimmers too!

M2 will leave Cayman S in the dust.
Near equal then, if you like that better :)

Also, as much as I like the looks of the Cayman....2er coupe 1-ups it.

I found the AutoBild article from 2011 with the 1M Coupé and the Cayman R PDK - they tested the cars on the same layout of the Contidrom.

Quick laptime comparison:
1:34,21 min - Porsche Cayman R PDK (987)
1:34,23 min - Porsche Cayman S PDK (981)
1:35,76 min - BMW 1M Coupé
1:36,53 min - BMW M235i
1:36,62 min - Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG
1:37,35 min - BMW M135i xDrive
1:37,53 min - Volkswagen Golf Mk7 R
1:38,38 min - Audi S3 Sportback S-tronic My2013
1:41,27 min - Audi A1 quattro
1:43,79 min - Renault Clio RS Cup (2012)

BMW is very fortunate to have such dedicated and optimistic supporters like you klier!

Dedicated to some models, most don't interest me anymore ;)
And optimistic sounds good! I can live with that. M235i needs praise around the cloud of negativity surrounding BMW on this forum.

i still think BMW is held in high regard on this forum in a general sense. The only reason I get frustrated with some of their decisions is because I am passionate about the brand.

I actually canceled the Boxster S upgrade we had been planning for my wife this week just in case the M2 becomes reality and tickles my fancy!
