In terms of screaming serious wealth by means of a personal automobile (concept or production), only the Chiron rivals the Vision 6. It may even have Chiron beat with it's sheer size and presence.

^ An estimated 25 were built. :)

Are they going to be making anymore similar to it or a potential successor?

^ Folks may have to convince MB to produce it? :)

From Automotive News:

“Much of it is fantasy at the moment of course, typical of futuristic concept cars. But, if this is where Mercedes is going with its flagship Maybach line, it’s going to give Rolls-Royce a run for its money -- and we’ll all be better off for it. “One other thing of note from the press release is the lack of any mention of autonomous driving. This is a car, it seems, that is meant to be driven. Now we just have to convince Mercedes to build it.”

-- Jordan Golson, The Verge

“It’s hard to say what the production odds are for this mega Mercedes, but you probably shouldn’t hold your breath. Even for the rarified segment of seven-figure cars, this would be pretty extravagant. It wouldn’t be impossible, or without precedent. Back when Maybach was still its own brand, the company created a ridiculous luxury coupe called the Exelero, and they sold the fully-functional car. So perhaps if someone with enough money and desire can convince Mercedes, there could be a road-legal version.”

-- Joel Stocksdale, Autoblog

“This car is huge. At 224.4 inches long, it’s 18.7 feet of 1 percent chariot. That’s 10 inches longer than the Mercedes-Maybach S600 and 5 inches short of a Rolls-Royce Phantom II, and those both have four doors. Remember when American cars were land yachts? The biggest of them all, the 1974 Cadillac Fleetwood 75 limousine, was just 2 feet longer (3 inches short of the modern Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman six-passenger limousine, as it happens). At 52.3 inches tall, it’s only 2 inches taller than the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. Long and low, baby.”

-- Scott Evans, Motor Trend

“While much of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 is concept-car fluff, it’s successful both as a far look into the future and as a tempting prospect of a soon-to-come Maybach coupe. And as long as we have the choice whether to snooze with Chopin in the air and a massage on our backs, or lay into 738 hp of meaty electric muscle with our own right foot, we’re ready for the future in the here and now.”

-- Eric Weiner, Automobile

“Intriguingly, the new Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 has the same wheelbase as the Vision Tokyo concept and wheels inspired by the brand's Concept IAA. This is no coincidence. These three vehicles likely show a realistic vision of Mercedes’ future vehicle plans, from a self-driving lounge to an efficient, morphing luxury sedan to an extremely luxurious sports EV coupe. “With the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept, Mercedes proves that although the future of mobility will be governed by automated driving and extremely efficient designs, it doesn’t mean it has to be boring.”

-- Nick Jaynes, Mashable

“What, then, to make of the Maybach 6? A Mercedes insider characterized the car as a “pie in the sky” concept -- but one that indicates future thinking about Maybach. All we can say is, at an event where one is surrounded by high-classic Mercedes-Benz models such as the SSK from the 1920s and 1930s and the Gullwing from the 1950s, it’s great to see a new car with the three-pointed star that is just as faint-dead-away beautiful as any that have gone before.”

-- Joe Lorio, Car and Driver

“One thing you won’t see is the Vision 6 in a dealer lot. But Mercedes didn’t use what looks like enough aluminum to cover a football field just to give you a peek at next year’s lineup. It made the thing to power itself up for a future where gasoline has no place, but there’s still no denying the appeal of a well-drawn coupe.”

-- Alex Davies, Wired

“Simply put, the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 is stunning. Looking like a supervillain’s personal shuttle, the concept features a long, streamlined silhouette with an extremely squat greenhouse, and as you’d expect from a Maybach, there are unique styling touches sprinkled throughout. Included are a prominent grille inspired by pinstriped suits, camera mirrors, oodles of chrome and aluminum-spoked wheels with transparent outer covers. Did we mention the gullwing doors? It has those, too.”

-- Andrew Hard, Digital Trends

Is there a final word on whether the Maybach brand will be resurrected or whether this car is a pipe dream?

^ They might already be working on its drivetrain, but this one may come first? :)

Although admitting that he wants to design electric sports cars, and indeed acknowledging that his team might already be doing so, Wagener said that Mercedes will launch EQ into higher-volume segments first. “We will start with the main segments, saloons and SUVs,” he said. “This is the reason we started with an SUV . . . it’s the fastest-growing segment.” Car and Driver

^^
That's is very good to know. The small and light GLA might be a good start rather than a GLC with heated seats all through and a heavy burmeister sound system. While they are at it, toss out the spare wheel and put on run flats.

According to MB Passion Blog there will be a teaser for a Maybach Convertible (Concept?) released within the next few hours.

This masterpiece is totally unexpected. Given the fact they are not teasing the upper part of the front fascia, it could mean the Maybach grille previewed on the Vision 6 Showcar was adapted and grafted onto the S-Class Cabriolet. In no way, a Mercedes-Maybach would ever receive a grille with the star in the center. The front air intakes are a luxurious interpretation of the ones on the corresponding S 63/S 65 models. Also, I am looking forward to seeing the interior and particularly the design details that make this car a Mercedes-Maybach (logos, possibly the steering wheel with two spokes and MAYBACH lettering, unique upholsteries and trims etc.).

The most exciting part will be the engine under the hood. It remains to be seen if the Mercedes-Maybach S 650 Cabriolet will introduce a brand new, Mercedes-AMG - engineered V12 powerplant with over 600 hp of peak output. If yes, it should be a perfect moment for this and the car chosen couldn't be more suitable.

Good job MAYBACH!;)

I think they will market this as a special edition of the S Class Coupe.

And then, if the feedback is good, a true Maybach Coupe will follow in the next generation.

I don't have high hopes for this. It seems that it's just a special edition S coupe cabriolet with added bling, some other luxury trim, and possibly an uprated version of the 36-valve V12. I don't think it does anything to further Maybach's agenda.

Totally! The S650 will be as much of a Maybach as the below Mini is a Rolls Royce:

At least the sedan is "different" enough from the regular S class to be categorized as Maybach model. But the S coupe convertible Maybach is just a badge exercise and is useless and characterless IMO.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
