Some details from JESMB. Looks some delays with introduction.
New Mercedes E-Class W214 slightly camouflaged
The new E-Class (W214) 100% electrified and more interior space
The new E-Class is again available in three versions. In addition to the classic sedan, the spacious estate also comes
back the all-terrain variant of the estate.
Due to the shell construction, there is probably about 3 months delay. The presentation is not scheduled to take place before February 2023. When the deliveries start is not yet certain.
he new E-Class will be more spacious. The wheelbase increases slightly. This also increases the length of the vehicle. The flared wheel arches on the front and rear axles are striking. Otherwise, only the AMG derivatives of the series had this.
In addition, the side line receives two striking sieks above the front and rear fenders.
The Saloon and Estate are again available with the Exclusive Line and receive the traditional Mercedes radiator grille. It now becomes higher and more majestic as the license plate moves further down. This is based on the S-Class.
With the lower daytime running light strip, however, one is reminiscent of the 4-face that characterized the E-Class from 1995 until the facelift of the 212 series in 2013.
Other new highlights of the E-Class W214:
- First MB. OS blocks are integrated in the vehicle
- Latest MBUX (new interior see here)
- Optional 3rd screen for the passenger
- Digital Light with 1 million mirrors per headlight
- Active ambient lighting
- Air suspension with rear-axle steering (4.5 degrees as on the GLC)
The engines of the new E-Class
All drives are electrified
The new E-Class comes with 4- and 6-cylinders electrified either as a 48 volt mild hybrid (via ISG) or as a 400 volt plug-in hybrid.
48 Volt MildHybrid models:
E 200 with M254 (204 + 23 hp)
E 300 with M254 (258 + 23 hp)
E 450 4matic with M256 (367 + 23 HP)
E 200d with OM654M with (163 +23 HP)
E 220d with OM654M with (197 + 23 HP)
E 300d 4matic with OM654M with (269 + 23 HP)
E 400d 4matic with
OM656M with (over 340 hp + 23 hp)
Plug-in hybrid:
E 300e with M254 (204 hp + 150 hp ?)
E 400e 4matic with M254 (252 hp + 150 hp ?)
E 450e 4matic with M256 (299 hp + 150 hp)
E 300de with OM654M (197 hp + 150 hp ?)
It remains exciting whether all plug-in hybrids will be certified for Germany afterwards. The E 450e with R6 petrol engine is preferred over the E 400e with M254 4-cylinder.
The AMG models with two different plug-in hybrid concepts
AMG will probably provide both the entry-performance models and the 63 with a plug-in hybrid.
The 53 AMG will be more oriented towards the series and will probably receive the usual Mercedes-Benz P2 series layout. The '63 top model was surprisingly changed from the concept of V8 BiTurbo to R6 M256. But remains true to the P3 Hybrid concept, which is also available in the new C 63 S E Performance, GLC 63 E Performance, S 63 E Performance and AMG GT 4-Door.
In the P3 concept, the electric motor sits on the rear axle and not, as in the P2, between the engine and transmission. Thus, the P3 is not limited in torque by the 9G-Tronic NAG3.
E 53 AMG E Performance 4matic (as P2 concept) with M256 R6 petrol engine with 367 hp + 150 hp. The performance data thus correspond to those of the S 580e with a system output of 510 hp.
Although the M256 is not an AMG engine, it will replace the M177 V8 BiTurbo in the E 63 S E Peformance. However, the M256 was developed by the Mercedes engineers in Untertürkheim for efficiency and therefore does not have large reserves for more power in the engine block. However, the 435 hp is less than the AMG M139I with 476 hp. Therefore, it remains exciting to see what performance the E 63 S E Peformance with the M256 plus P3 E motor on the rear axle will have.
