Yep… Seems like we can expect something silly around the grille. That black plastic seems to be for real.

The evolution of a brand icon: digital performance and advanced powertrains
The new E-Class combines the unique "at home" feeling that customers have loved for decades with a new dimension of seamlessly integrated digital luxury. Groundbreaking technologies make the newly developed model the most intelligent and personal E-Class in the long history of the model series. What's more, thanks to consistent electrification, it sets new standards in efficiency and also enables locally emission-free driving.

The digital world premiere will be streamed simultaneously for the public and multipliers on numerous Mercedes-Benz channels such as Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube. Media representatives will also receive in-depth information on Mercedes me media. In addition to the original English-language audio, transcripts in a total of four languages are available to read along and download. Press materials such as videos, images, graphics and press releases complete the extensive selection.

The black grill surround is on its way to the new E-Class without a doubt. It was already leaked in the production pieces earlier in this thread.
I am not a fan of it either but it does make it a little distinctive in the lineup.

But why are the fender and the hood black? I still believe this prototype is made from the fronts of two cars. There is still hope that the grill surrounding piece will be with the colour of the body.

I think that if it were surrounded by gloss black, Audi did it years ago and BMW also did it fully in the 7 series, why not Mercedes? We'll see how it looks with the classic grill

The prototype seen here is a single car. The black fender and hood are a clever disguise to distract from the black grill surround.
This render with the body color fender and hood, is pretty much what the E will look like.

So now we already know one thing that they will change in the facelift in four years’ time: they’ll remove the black plastic grille surround that all customers hated from day one (which they would have known from the start, had they bothered to ask customers)

And then we will get the new steering wheel as well, so better to wait :D

ERLKÖNIG: E 53 FUTURE LARGEST E-CLASS MOTORISATION?

MARKUS JORDAN·12. APRIL 2023

E-CLASS

Test model

MERCEDES-AMG

According to our latest information, the new E-Class generation of the 214 series comes neither with an 8-cylinder bi-turbo engine nor with a 4-cylinder variant. Presumably, you position the model exactly between C 63 and S 63 and use an in-line six-cylinder. It is quite possible that you also do without the E 63 designation and offer the model as E 53 4MATIC+.
