A4/S4/RS4 [Renders] MY2019 Audi A4 Facelift

The thing is the Passat looks way better than the A4, while being cheaper.

A true step forwards is needed with the A4. It has been worst looking Audi sedan for a couple of generations already.

Don't get your hopes up. The new A8 and A7 have a conservative front-end despite their cutting edge interior and disco tail lights.

However best A4 to drive ever, technically most advanced and yet worst looking for someone, strange dilemma. Buyers are only looking after looks ? Buy B9 A4 Allroad like me, that is still pretty handsome !

I'm in the minority i guess, but I really like the B9 A4. With S-line and Matrix-LEDs it looks really tempting.
Audi removed almost every gasoline engine in Germany a while ago. Save for the 1.4 liter with 150hp and the RS4 there were no other engines of that kind available. I don't know if they have the other engines in store again, but that move really dropped the sales here.

What are you talking about? There's also a 190 PS 2.0 TFSI and a 252 PS 2.0 TFSI.

There was no 2.0 and 3.0 liter gasoline engine available during summer time here in Germany. I dont know if they are back again, but that really hurt the sales figures of the A4.

Autobild reports:
- new softnose due to pedestrian safety regulations in 2018
- 2019 big facelift
- only windows and doors will be kept
- new LED lights
- 48v system and more plugin hybrids
- 2023 will be the new A4 with only transversal engines. Thanks to @CrunchSlaughtered
- new gen turbo engines: 1.5L inline 3, 2L inline 4, 2.5L inline 5, 3L V6
- hp differentiation between engines will be almost non-existent as it is cheaper and easier to change the power level with the different plugin systems.

I remember reading that the RWD platform will be used only from A6 upwards, and A4 will pass to the MQB platform

Facelifted 2019 Audi A4 Avant Brings Minor Updates
Audi‘s latest-generation A4 model is getting ready for a mid-cycle refresh, one that should include an updated interior, new tech, new lights and ever-so-slightly different front and rear fascias.

This A4 Avant prototype was spotted recently in Germany and as you can see, it’s trying to hide its front bumper design. Its rear bumper is a little different too thanks to that new diffuser, while the exhaust pipes feature a more rectangular design, as opposed to round.

The taillights, just like the headlights, are the same as on the current model. This should change at a later date during testing. Overall though, it seems like Audi won’t be doing anything drastic to the A4’s aesthetic.

Are we getting multiple touchscreen displays like in the A6?

Highly unlikely. It’s a facelift, not a complete redesign. Audi would have to change the entire layout of the dashboard in order to fit another screen in there somewhere. Besides, if you look at the last image in the gallery below, you’ll see that the floating infotainment display is still there, on top of the dash.

We do however expect to see new materials, new color combinations and definitely a few new technologies on-board, of the active safety and connectivity kind. Although, hoping for something as advanced as the A6’s Parking Pilot function is wishful thinking when it comes to the A4 – perhaps on the next gen model though.

Similar yet cleaner power units

We haven’t heard any rumors regarding the facelifted A4’s engine range, but it’s safe to assume that at least some of them, will be more efficient, with lower CO2 emissions. Meanwhile, 2.0-liter and 3.0-liter TDI and TFSI units will still dominate the range, mated to either a 7-speed s-tronic or an 8-speed tiptronic gearbox, depending on which version you opt for.

It’s entirely possible that Audi will hurry up and unveil the A4 facelift this year as a 2019 model, although once launched, it will have to face a brand new generation of the BMW 3-Series, which will definitely put it at a disadvantage technology-wise.

As the German automotive press has been heralding a highly extensive life-cycle-update for the A4, this appears lazy as well as disappointing.

Honestly, Audi should pull a G05 X5 and skip the facelift because the G30 3er will likely bury the A4 in regards to sales this time next year.

I wonder how extensive the interior changes will be.

^ G20 ;)
And really, it's a different situation because the A4 is all-new while the F15 X5 is a facelift of the E70...

Guess they were talking about the G11 7er....

Yikes. Even the Audi dealers have been praying for a thorough overhaul of the A4s appearance. This does not seem to be it.

@Jimmy have you now grown weary of the A4 too? I recall you being quite enamoured by it at launch, in particular it’s stance.

True-I very much liked the current A4/S4 upon its' introduction. In fact, for some time, I preferred it to the W205 C-Class and F30. I continue to find it an absolutely stellar automobile in terms of assembly/material quality. And I enjoy being an occupant in an interior that is quite "spot on" (although I don't really care for the stationary "stand-up" screen). Alas, its' exterior design is not very imaginative or eye-arresting. That is somewhat corrected on well-equipped S4s' or the full-fat RS4. But as for the more pedestrian configurations, I personally cannot justify the surcharge that Audi demands versus VWs' Passat. Having driven them back-to-back, I came away more impressed by the Passat.

In the Netherlands you hardly see one, sedan or avant. Personally, I doubt if a major facelift inside out would change that. It’s a pity. It comes to show, that if design at model change is too modest/conservative (because the former sold so well) isn’t always a good idea. I sometimes think car companies underestimate customers for them wanting something completely new, in stead of more of the old one with a few minor tweaks here and there.

A4 Avants are plentiful on German roads. But sedans are a very rare sight. Perhaps the A5 Sportback, which is selling relatively well, has rained on the A4 sedans' parade.

This gen A4 is selling way less than both the 3 series and C-class in most markets. I definitely think the too conservative approach on the styling front has made the car date quicker, it needs an extensive makeup both front and rear to make it competitive again, especially now that a new 3 series is around the corner it's got even more of a harder job to do to attract customers again

That might be part of the explanation. A5 does look better than the A4 and better than his predecessor A5.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
