Heavy influence from the X4s lights which I think is the best part of the X4.

The interior is also heavily influenced by the Z4 ....I think in terms of design and interior quality this is going to the the best 3 series yet.

Edit: When are we getting a new M sport steering wheel, I think the current one is a let down.

Gone are the days of analogue dials that's until we enter a retro era again....
All fine with me for the practicality of infontainment makes sense.
But as with the new X5 I just don't like the graphics of the Speedometer/Rev counter at all! BMW should have kept the traditional layout IMO

Rest of the new 3er will however be just awesome!

Agreed, the design of the new graphics for the BMW live cockpit isn’t to my liking I think Audi has the best looking one. In terms of usability and details it will be interesting to see which has the best infotainment between the 3 Germans with their new systems.

Press Packs are being sent now. Expect a leak as is always the case.
But not long till the Mondial l'Auto opens anyway but the Paris BMW brand showroom off the champs elyesse will be having a preview on the eve of the event.

This was actually BMW at the London MotorFair October 1997. Directly after the IAA there used to be London. Then Tokyo. So you would be travelling three times in just over a month.

Before the environmentalists took over banning vehicles from London and eventually leading to the demise of the London Event. As the new G20 3er takes its position inside the usual hall for BMW but without attendance from Rolls-Royce or MINI.

Just as G20 will be the main focus point in Paris, back in London in 1997 it was the market launch of the E46 3er. And we know how well that car got on. E46 was when the 3er started to resemble its kin and inherit its innovation. It was the benchmark to which all others were measured.

What an amazing picture!!!
Look at how few models! Look at that yellow 8er! Look at how small BMW was as a brand! That 7er and E46 :cry:

But taking a better look...... is that actually some sort of prototype of the BMW C1 scooter just behind that grey E46 3er?? In 1997?

Also, I think that from the whole show in London in 1997, not a single white car was shown. White didn't exist in north western Europe in those days. Only in Italy and Spain, mostly on Fiats and Seats. Look how that's changed!

Screenshot work done by someone on another site

I love how vague that sounds ;)

You hit the nail on the head with the retro part.

So that's why I disagree, and why I really like the new shapes and forms of the LCD display graphics; BMW went all the way and designed everything new for the dials, instead of others who have a digital display with some retro looking graphics mimicking the past. That is like being half way in the past and halfway in the future.

Also, having the speedometer and rev meter on the sides of the screen clears a ton of real estate in the middle which can be used for other functions while still showing the most important dials in the place and shape they always are....

That E38 7 looks so brilliant...even by today's standards! My love affair with that era continues to remind me why I fell in love with these machines in the first place (y)
