3 Series (G20) [Renders] BMW 3 Series (G20) Rendered

The BMW G20 is the seventh generation of the BMW 3 Series range. Body styles: G20 (sedan), G21 (wagon/touring), G28 BEV (i3), and G28 (long-wheelbase). Predecessor: F30 3 Series. Successor: G50 3 Series. Production: October 2018-2016.
Havent read all the thread but just wanted to make an observation about interior - the tablet seen in spy shots is either a dummy or to disguise the real one underneath, which I think is slightly inset, resembling the 8 series concept. That concept gives a few clues of how the finished G20 will look inside imo.

Where do you see similarity with Lexus or Peugeot on this renders??? I do not see them.

Lexus on the rearlights (see RC rearlights) and Peugeot on the frontlights (see the kink on the lower part of Peugeot 3008 frontlights).

But Peugeot has copy BMW first. BMW 7 e65

Maybe white part of rear lights looks a little bit similar. But not much in my eyes.

That rear looks pretty good.
The rear lights remind me of a Lexus maybe due to the L shape of the red LED tubes.

In overall looks from the mule, this 3 series appears to be very evolutionary, no major step forward like I was expecting, it has some E90 styling elements in the rear boot and rear window/C-pillar. In the past judging from styling this was history of 3 series evolutionary and major changes.

1975 E21 - 1982 E30 - evolutionary
1982 E30 - 1990 E36 - major change
1990 E36 - 1998 E46 - evolutionary
1998 E46 - 2005 E90 - major change
2005 E90 - 2012 F30 - evolutionary
2012 F30 - 2019 G20 - evolutionary

Next 3 series in 2026, major change?

I personally perceive the soon-to-be offically presented 3 series to be an evolution of the E90. Obviously, elements such as flank sculpturing, lamps, grill and interiors have evolved in step with the times. The general architecture of the 3-box profile remains similar. Fine by me, as I've always liked 3ers from the E90+derivatives onwards. And of course the E30 and E46 as well.

It's clearer now that what looked to be oddly tall chubby kidneys on the earlier camo'd cars are actually swept back up the bonnet like the 2 Series Active Tourer LCI, rather than being simply implanted in the front of the car like on the 5-er and 7-er. This is somewhat encouraging but I'm still very nervous about this given some of BMW's other designs lately.

1975 E21 - 1982 E30 - evolutionary
1982 E30 - 1990 E36 - major change
1990 E36 - 1998 E46 - evolutionary
1998 E46 - 2005 E90 - major change
2005 E90 - 2012 F30 - evolutionary
2012 F30 - 2019 G20 - evolutionary

This list is slightly flawed I think. There should be an in between choice between evolutionary and revolutionary, and going from E36 to E46 certainly is not evolutionary. And really, I don't think going from E90 to F30 is either....

I very much do too!

Funny thing is - this is how I see it in the grand scheme of things...
1975 E21 - 1982 E30 - evolutionary
1982 E30 - 1990 E36 - major change
1990 E36 - 1998 E46 - evolutionary
1998 E46 - 2005 E90 - evolutionary
2005 E90 - 2012 F30 - evolutionary
2012 F30 - 2019 G20 - evolutionary

I'm not saying that I'm right, there are countless different takes on what constitutes evolution over revolution but for me there is much more of a consistent lineage in the 3er lineup than say for that of the 5er where E39 to E60 was a big jump and then E60 to F10 was another in a much more conservative direction.

Wow - I haven't gotten this intrigued by a set of official spyshots in a long time. Oh BMW - you're such a tease, tsk, tsk...

@klier: hey cockface - at least there's a hood shut-line that you can't bitch about.

Quite true, everybody seems to have another take on it. And really, is is all within the confinement of the traditional RWD three box sedan shape. Some might think they all look exactly the same, and only see differences between a Touring/sedan, cabrio/sedan, SUV/sedan, etc.

My take

1975 E21 - 1982 E30 - evolutionary
1982 E30 - 1990 E36 - revolutionary (most revolutionary a BMW will maybe ever be IMO)
1990 E36 - 1998 E46 - in between evo-revo
1998 E46 - 2005 E90 - revolutionary
2005 E90 - 2012 F30 - evolutionary
2012 F30 - 2019 G20 - in between evo-revo

@klier: hey cockface - at least there's a hood shut-line that you can't bitch about.

And it almost makes me cry of joy! Look how beautiful the whole hood shutline is. No freakin' shutline, no awkward clamshell design, no freaking gimmicks. This is EXACTLY as it should be.

I concede - it does look better.
What I'm more relieved about is that the kidneys are: a) not inverted and b) the grille surround is not as thick as I thought it would be.

and b) the grille surround is not as thick as I thought it would be.

I'd say it's ever so slightly above what we are used to, but the E90 pre facelift mustache is definitely part of the camo (y)

Also: shoutout to the tailpipes, which are simple BMW and not gimmicky like the 5er/X3
