EQS [Renders] 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. It was released in September 2021 in Germany and the fourth quarter of 2021 in the United States.
This is going to be a surprise to everyone when it's revealed and I am sure will look far better than the covered up prototypes currently roaming the streets. The front and rear light and bumper details will be the decider whether its a looker. But I am sure this car will look great when it is revealed that.

Guys, you cannot compare this luxury sedan with an electric sportscar like the eTron or Taycan.
It is a totally different segment.
You would never compare the 911 or R8 with the S-Class.

Ok, so perhaps it’s unfair to compare it to the Taycan but I’m still more worried about it having the hood and windshield from a 15-year-old Civic

Yes I'm not buying the whole pod like design, but you need to understand that although Tycan and eTron GT have beautiful designs, they have less range and room than most of other EVs, they did not gain the other benefits that comes with the EV platform.

I think Mercedes are trying to take full advantage of the newly developed EV platform after it was proven that its not so smart to produce EVs on ICE platform, see EQC and eTron SUV.

Overall, LUCID design seems a lot better, but it certainly also has a weird side profile. Tesla Y is even uglier but look at that interior space !

Lets wait and see the full reveal.

Not sure what to think, clearly a much better interior design than the new S but I think I still prefer Mercedes's now outgoing dual screen set up.
The way the intruments connect to the main screen is just like in the WV Touareg.

Not sure how this can surprise anyone. We have pretty much seen the car. It's a capsule shaped turn.

I'm thinking if you get the car in black and with the window surround in black instead of chrome, and then have the windows tinted, then the area in front of the A pillar and the area behind the C pillar won't stand out so much. Might work. But I always hate it when you have to start improving a brand new design with aftermarket tuning.

The remaining camo can be quite deceptive and makes the middle section appear smaller and the car thus more "pod-like". Good to see the front seems to be longer than I initally thought when still in full cover. Interior is an absolute stunner so I'll keep my judgement until full reveal.

Quite frankly the window line is most similar to the AMG GT 4 door to me, segmented windows and all.

I think the sense of scale is going to help this car in the full reveal. It's not going to come off as looking cheap.

It took me a great while for me to get on board with AMG GT 4-door, and I'm still only 72% on board with that speedy hippo. What helps with the GT is that it's fast-back, which tend to be more cab-rearwards and is a hatch. The visual "weight" is biased to the rear wheels giving it a more pounce-like stance. The EQS is a cab-forward design with a shortened rear deck-lid. Whereas the GT, coupled with a shark-like front, looks like it's about to lunge forward, the EQS just looks relatively melty and ho-hum.

I'll still be open-minded till the reveal, mostly because I do take Serpens at his word that it's not as disappointing we make it out to be. But, man, these latest pics make it difficult.

In the spirit of opinions and associated biases

My biases...
  • I've owned twelve BMWs, one Alpina (B6 Grand Coupe) and one Mercedes (b250e)
  • I've owned six EVs: 4 Nissan Leafs, 1 MB B250e, 1 Tesla Model S 100D
My opinions...
  • I've driven 300,000mi on EVs without a single glitch (never stranded, never unable to get back home or to a charger
  • My family has done three 3,000mi trips on the Model S (flawless)
  • My Alpina B6 is the last ICE car I will purchase (it is IMO the best looking BMW) and is flawless looks and joy to ride.
  • EV is the future - They are fun, cheaper to operate and way cleaner.
  • EVs look different (get used to it!) - The leaf looked like a frog from another planet (but was a revolution on earth). The Model S looked good (at the time) and was a game changer. The B250e was an EV that had MB safety, worked flawlessly (albeit with a 1st gen range), looked friendly.
  • The EQS is a game changer and will grow on you.
  • MB is all in on EV (unlike the Munich brand) and they have open-minded folks leading their EV program. Thank you MB!
  • I will be 1st in line to buy an EQS (to replace the Tesla Model S).

My take: The Taycan, eTron GT and EQS will be more than able to peacefully co-exist. Especially pertaining to the EQS versus the VAG siblings, we are investigating two quite dissimilar market segments that are related foremostly in terms of price and the fact that they feature dedicated BEV platforms. If anything from VAG is to directly compete with the EQS, it will likely be the upcoming "Landjet Project" cars due for presentation from MY 2024 onwards. The Taycan has clutched (in large numbers) and the eTron GT will clutch buyers in the X290 AMG GT, BMW 8/M8 GC, Panamera and Audi S7/RS7 segment who are open-minded towards electric automobiles.

Oh yes-the EQS' most compelling argument will be its' interior. It promises to be quite fascinating.

I would add that handling will likely be impressive for the cars size and shape. Basically a better handling S-Class but with similar comfort.

Other than that, only near Maybach 62 levels of inteior room will justify the shape of the car.
