EQS [Renders] 2020 Mercedes-Benz EQS

The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. It was released in September 2021 in Germany and the fourth quarter of 2021 in the United States.

to my eyes at least, this ain't no ugly!
The Lucid is pretty but the long bonnet is inefficient for an SUV. I see the design and shape as a bridge between the past and the future. However, in the future there will be EVs that offer the same legroom and boot size in a more compact package.

Customers will vote with their wallets whether they want a long boot or more interior room.

The Lucid Air is absolutely stunning, but look at the spec and the environment as well: these are like 21-22” wheels, sporty in styling, and there are similar ones for the EQS as well. And of course these are official photos, but I think at the end it will still look better than the EQS.

If we go into details imho the problems are the following:

The EQS extended the greenhouse, but meanwhile kept the same curvature at the top, thus making it more bubble like, and not as elegant and sleek as a new S or CLS. On the Lucid the greenhouse appears to be just as long, but flatter at the top, which makes the car appear lower and sportier.

The nose of the EQS Concept was very similar from profile to the Air, more vertical, but on the production version its again too soft.

I don’t like how low the door handles are, makes the car look very tall, even though we saw it on photos together with the w223 during testing and saw how much more sportier it looks.

So while I believe the right wheels, no camo, a good color like high tech silver, in AMG styling and the digital grill will make a big difference and the car will be pretty, I think there are many small details which make a difference, and could have been done better.

Another thing is that Lucid also has not really good specs, like put a smaller wheel than this onto it and it looks weird on such a long and wide car. This is a particularly good photo of the car, so let’s keep these things clear.

Agree me also trying to be positive I guess best to wait till official
It probably helps that I'm not terribly (emotionally) invested in it either. But I'll just wait and see it in its totality before declaring all is lost. Besides I figure this is an intermediate of sorts until their BEV initiative is fully absorbed within their mainstream line-up. I think it's safe to assume the next S will me a combo EQS' and S' line, so a sleek and wide 3-box profile.

The back is awful specially the way the trunk opens.
I am fascinated by the trunk opening from the perspective of how well it'll perform when it's rear-ended. Unless the folks at Lucid figure accidents will be a thing of the past because of automation, which if my assumption has any grain of truth, that's some naive thinking. Either way, this car and the Honda E were the BEV cars that has given me hope that their will be some "personality" regarding BEV's.

EDIT: here I was trying to be positive, and then Jimmy re-posted the side profile pic again. This time I am looking at it on a monitor and not a smartphone.

Woo boy.... let's say it's difficult being optimistic about that.

Ugly af...nothing more to say. The greenhouse reminds me of audi a6 (1997-2004).
5 windows at the side...and thats sensual purity? LOL
I’ll stay with the S-Class or get me an Lucid.

I think this will be my favorite MB interior from the new generation, watching how that women interacts with that screen, it’s like some concept car, very cool, yeah no buttons and etc but really I can’t care when I see this.

Also, finally wood in the center

After watching this video I strongly feel that this new EQS is going to be a next level car.

When I chatted with a guy from MB India sharing my experience of new S-Class he told me to wait for this one, it’ll be a different breed from all.

Agree interior wise

Exterior wise so far looking like a disappointing breed ..

MB and BMW putting out these portrait mode videos is so symptomatic of the problem - trying to be cool and fit in instead of understanding why and doing the right thing.

As much as you think that's out of touch grandpa companies doing their thing, marketing research has indicated that people are becoming increasingly lazy about flipping their phones horizontally. They're noticing that people are more likely to watch your videos if they can continue holding it vertically. Blame Tik Tok/Instagram stories/Snapchat

EDIT: I may have misunderstood your post. Are you saying they're dumb for releasing these "cool" videos in the first place?

OK, so what we have here is the love child of a 2008 Honda Civic and a 2008 Citroen C6. Front from the Civic, roofline and rear from the C6. Is this really the best Stuttgart could come up with? The proportions are all wrong and you may be able to salvage some of it with big wheels and night pack de-chroming, but still a very poor effort. Just look at Porsche Taycan and the new Audi e-Tron GT. They look so good. There goes the neighbourhood should Mercedes be saying and hang their head in shame.
