The Mercedes-Benz EQS (V297) is a battery electric full-size luxury liftback car produced by Mercedes-Benz Group and part of the Mercedes-Benz EQ family. It was released in September 2021 in Germany and the fourth quarter of 2021 in the United States.

Looks sexy as hell.

They are more expensive to legacy carmakers who are not building them in-house but rather sourcing motors from Bosch and batteries from LG and then a BMS from a 3rd supplier and then getting software teams to get all 3 components to talk to one another And then developing training and service manuals and sharing that content with thousands of dealerships across the globe. Overall cost is higher than mating a ZF transmission and your own engine that is consistent throughout your entire product range that you’ve been selling for 100 years.
It's always cheaper to focus on business of the day than invest in the future.

This mindset is often the downfall of big corporations when and industry is on the brink of siezmic shift.

Either way I am very excited about the EQS and EQE because they appear to be genuine outside of the box BEVs.

I really don't love sloping front ends that come with cab forward designs, but here we go...

I agree. It's a shape thats always been associated with lower end vehicles in my mind.

Let's see how this plays out, but there's something off about the production model so far.

EQS will have an EQS-concept inspired black-panel grill

Wow the EQS front seems to be very interesting with the illuminated grill and the quite aggressive headlights. (as oppose to the EQC)
We can also see that the same front will be on the SUV, but the EQE has a somewhat different grill design and a completely different headlight shape, resembles the current E class with a widening shape as it goes out from the grill. EQS Maybach looks like they just changed the “grill wallpaper”, but yeah good to see they are also going at the high end electric market. They must be selling the GLS Maybach better than expected if there is no EQS Maybach in this plan but there is already an EQS SUV Maybach.

It seems like the front on the production model is more sloping, and the trunk is sharper. Also the greenhouse is somewhat bigger, wheels are smaller, all this combined makes the production version less attractive than the concept, as expected, but I still hope it will be a great looking car.

This will certainly take a while to digest. Frankly...right now...I have no idea what to think of it.

That rear wheel arch reminds me to the last Toyota Prius.

Hmmm...the rear wheel arches are among the more appealing elements of the EQS' exterior. It's basically everything above the doorhandles that leave me scratching my head. And that short, heavily sloped bonnet, of course.

Maybe it's a good thing. So far, the EQS is leaving me puzzled. Its' design occupies the mind. I'm sure the soon-to-be-presented Audi eTron GT will leave me absolutely floored and waxing epic praise. But for how long ? The EQS, on the other hand, will keep my eyes and mind busy for quite a while.
