Volkswagen New Midsize Coupe concept

Will use MQB platform
German media is reporting the next generation Volkswagen Jetta will take the shape of a four-door coupe.

Scheduled to come out sometime in 2017, the all-new Jetta is believed to grow in size and offer roughly the same amount of interior space as the Skoda Octavia, but obviously with a more posh cabin to justify the premium. Auto Bild says it won't be a mundane sedan anymore as Volkswagen wants to roll out a four-door coupe so expect a more sloped roofline.

It will be based on the MQB platform and obviously is going to be closely related to the Golf while production will remain at the Puebla factory in Mexico. Chances are it won't be a true "four-door coupe" and will probably share some design similarities with the China-only Lamando which is basically a production version of the New Midsize Coupe (NMC) concept.

There's also the possibility Volkswagen will sell the overhauled Jetta both as a sedan and a proper four-door coupe. As a matter of fact, more than a year ago we heard a rumor about the new model spawning a true two-door coupe version, a wagon derivative and even a more rugged Alltrack edition.

The current Jetta is so vanilla. A sleeker silhouette and better driving dynamics would go a long way. I wouldn't mind a Jetta R.
