SLK/SLC [Renders] 2017 SLC (SLK successor)

The Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class is a compact executive roadster, produced by Mercedes-Benz. It was released in 1996 and was built at the Mercedes plant in Bremen, Germany, until the end of production in 2020. The former name "SLK" was derived from sportlich (sporty), leicht (lightweight), and kurz (short). With the release of the facelift R172 in 2016, the SLK-Class was renamed to SLC-Class in accordance with the revised nomenclature adopted by Mercedes. Under this scheme, roadsters use the base name "SL", followed by the model's placement in Mercedes-Benz hierarchy, the letter "C", being the roadster equivalent to the C-Class.

Actually R172 came out in 2011, so its due for a facelift in 2015. The next model R173 will be launched in approx. 2018 based on the normal 7 years model cycle.

The lack of facelifted test mules suggests that they might in fact move straight onto the next generation model, which makes sense. Just like how the SLS wasn't facelifted.

The SLS was a limited production vehicle with a really short life cycle - 4 years only.
The SLK will most probably get a facelift. I guess it won't be a major one tho since the market for roadsters continues to shrink and big investments cannot be justified.

I can't see them skipping the facelift, doesn't make sense. The SLK actually does ok in the U.S. sales wise, but barely. Not sure what the worldwide numbers are. I can see the facelift with the new engines, SLC 300 with 241hp and a SLC 400/450 with 329/362hp and the new SLC55 AMG with the new 4L AMG V8 or an updated version of the current 5.5L V8 which is pretty unique in the MB lineup.

The current SLK lags behind the Boxster/Cayman and Z4 in the dynamics department. I think Mercedes will have to make it slightly larger (both length and width) with a front-mid engine layout in order to make the SLC more compelling for buyers.
